Couldn't decide which one I liked better. Opinions? (I'd say the second one if I'd taken it a little sooner, just before Mr. Kimby got between me and the trees...)

I prefer the second one which underlines the verticality of the trees.

Wow, the Tourism Board of your State would love to have these photos. How fortunate to have such pristine skiing conditions, you must be out every available day. Cheers!

Winter sunrise in Cairo. Taken early this morning. Not a lot different from summer sunrise, just a few degrees cooler.

How fortunate to have such pristine skiing conditions, you must be out every available day. Actually, until the lake house is finished, most of our potential ski days have been taken up with work on the cottage. But once it's finished, look out! We will be able to XC ski right from our door, drive to the local downhill ski area 15 miles away, toboggan down the hill onto the lake, snowmobile on miles of National Forest trails, and even kite ski on the lake...

I was looking around the web to see if there were any photos of it ever snowing in Cairo. Since it has snowed in places like Algiers, Beirut or Damascus in recent years, it seemed like a possibility. However, a Google image search of "Cairo snow" only turned up some snowy pictures of Cairo, IL and Cairo, GA as well as a dog called Cairo frolicking in a snowy back yard.

It does snow in parts of Egypt, usually on the hills in the Sinai. There was recently a flurry in Alexandria, but as for Cairo? I'm not sure there ever has been since the last ice age.

Can you just pretend the dust is snow? It drifts much as snow does, filling in the steps of stairways...

Gorgeous, Cheery! I'm blown away by the delicate tracery on the glass, but love all of them. Is the paving stone mimicking fossils? It's wonderful.

Oh my yes! Shoveling the driveway is always good for catching a sh*tload of snow down the collar!
BTW, I was only able to capture a couple small bombs. The bigger ones are more like avalanches as they cascade down through the branches, causing the branches below to unload their snow, further adding to the snow explosion.

Those snow bombs can really be alarming when one is in the trees after a heavy snow. One can be reasonably dry and cozy one moment and wet and very cold seconds later.

Kimby, are those first two pictures (#60 & #61) a frozen lake or a field. That first one is so beautiful. Can't believe you got that falling snow in motion! Wow, you all live in a b&w world this time of year.

New thread "Snow & Ice" was merged into existing thread "Winter Photographs".Thanks, for moving it. I had a feeling there was a thread out there somewhere but didn't search the right keyword - winter.Kimby, are those first two pictures (#60 & #61) a frozen lake or a field. That first one is so beautiful. Frozen lake. Can't you see the waves? Can't believe you got that falling snow in motion! Wow, you all live in a b&w world this time of year. Exactly what my sister said when I sent her pictures taken last week in Yellowstone National Park. Will upload them here soon.

The town of West Yellowstone gets a LOT of snow each winter: This is one of the motels that closes for the winter. March 15 is the last day of snowmobiling in the park, so they are beginning to plow the streets and parking lots that laid under a blanket of snow all winter.

We went cross-country skiing along the edge of Yellowstone National Park. These guys were across the Madison River from the ski trail. I didn't notice the bison in the water until after I took the pictures! Needless to say, it was snowing that day.
