Rush hour in the metro, anyone? I have to do this every day.

That part of Canada always has such neat lines in its architecture (enhanced by the way they are painted, of course). Those make me think of some of the seaside towns in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland -- or Existentia's holiday visit home. It's a nice, pleasant area of the world to live in, Kerouac. And not over populated either. I don't envy your commute every day. I did that for years when working in London. It times it got totally crazy.

Our local pub. Looks totally wild doesn't it? Actually my good friend was raised in that pub. Back then it used to be just an ordinary house:

Even though Robert Doisneau, Willy Ronis and Henri Cartier-Bresson are not around to immortalize them anymore, the poor children of Paris still play in the alleys.

A lot of people think that Paris is a rich city, but I must inform you that at this time of year (and for the next four months), the underprivileged masses have to line up in front of certain shops with their ration tickets to get a chance to buy some of the necessities of life.

It looks as though some Japanese tourists are being brave and going "off the beaten track", taking part in "real Parisian life" and "soaking up the culture".

Wow, so they will rent the swimming costumes out?
Here you are not even allowed to try them on without underpants on. (Although how they check this I'll never know!).

I can think of how.

It's funny, we'll go to a hotel or hospital and use sheets and robes that were on other people, but the very idea of the baggy rental swim trunks -- which would probably be worn with underpants -- is abhorrent.
Whatever ~~ it's a great photo, HW!

Yes Deyana, you can rent them if you don't want to get the clothes wet that you are wearing. Because essentially, women here wear street clothes if they go for recreational swimming. Long pants, t- shirts, everything. Here you can see pyjama type clothes and sarongs.

Renting sounds like a good idea to me. Should clarify that here they want you to wear underpants when first trying them on from new. I can understand that, because they wouldn't be washed in between different people trying them on.

Monday I went downtown on this bus, snapping out the window as I rode along. There are bunches of booths at the corner of the Periferico. Want some candy? Poster for the alternate, people's Guelaguetaza: Looking good, girls! Those nice foundation garments should get you cool boyfriends ~ Lots of signs, lots of businesses. Some just try harder for customer attention ~ I scream, you scream, we all scream ......

thanks... the other pictures here are great too though!
one question - what does legerdemain mean?
|
|
|
Post by bjd on Jul 28, 2010 11:25:56 GMT
Legerdemain means a magic trick done by sleight of hand -- like a magician performing a card trick.

ah i see. thanks. well i have a version of the photo where i didn't make the surroundings black and white, but i didn't upload it to flickr, and i can only post photos here i have uploaded - usually the version of a photo i like best (like in this case, i didn't want any colour of the surrounding to interfere with the photo...) i usually try out various things with a photo, just to see how it turns out...
