Re: the no email notification problem; there has been a reply with suggestions for remedying it:
... we have found that a lot of self hosted emails as well as emails provided by internet service providers have very strict spam filters that will often times block our emails before they can even get to their email account. One thing you can try is to have them add noreply@proboards.com to their email contacts list and see if that helps. Otherwise they may need to contact [the internet provider] directly about the spam filter settings to allow the email to reach their account.
Another option would be to use the "Change Email" option on the activation page to change their email address to one of the known free email providers such as Gmail or Yahoo, as we don't encounter any issues with these services.
Immediately below this reply there was a post from a person saying she had the very same experience as Htmb -- receiving before, not now, checked spam, checked settings, etc. This person was directed to read the post quoted above.
Maybe we should see if they'll give you a free Pontius Pilate t-shirt to go with the *ahem* helpful suggestion.

I've added that address to my email contact list. I'd appreciate if someone could send me a pm to test it out.

I'll try that, too. However, I regularly receive emails from two other travel sites that inform me when I have a PM. (The reason I had never activated it here is because OBVIOUSLY I will be checking this site every day, which is not always the case for the other sites.)

I also receive email notices from another travel site without a problem....one as recent as yesterday.
The two anyport PMs I received today didn't work as far as sending me an email notice, but I appreciate the help. I've set my email spam filter to the weakest setting and added the address to my contact list, but still no AnyPort alerts. Unless anyone has any new ideas I'm just not going to worry about it.

Bixa, it looks like you and the proboards tech support staff were spot on. I changed my stored email address for my AnyPort account to an old one I hardly ever use. Next I sent myself a PM and almost immediately I was sent an email notification.
Since I had to use an activation code sent to me via my "new" email address I'm just going to leave everything as is for now. I'm afraid my regular email account may block an activation code email if I try to switch back.
I know this is a bit obsessive, but it had really bugged me that the service had stopped so suddenly.

Everything everywhere seems to always claim to be "upgrading" their services, but I think that all of us know that this is far from the truth in many cases. I think the technical staff are often just fobbing off a few changes to justify their salaries and they drop a few things here and there "because nobody will notice anyway."

Yay, I received my first ever PM notification by email. I'll leave that function activated for a few more days to see if it continues to work, and then I will deactivate because it is not a function that I need.

OK, I just updated my Firefox (25.0 MacOSX). Now when I log onto a page on Anyport, if anyone has posted a video, the ad beside it starts playing. At full volume. Over and over. It's driving me crazy and I am searching for ways to disable it somehow..

Okay, here is a brand new feature, hot off the presses:
You can now AUTO-EMBED images on anyport by simply pasting in the image url and posting -- no adding tags, no highlighting, no clicking button, no nothin'. Just paste & go.
If you wish to post an oversized picture, such as some maps or graphs, do this: Click on the Link icon (the one with the blue globe on it). Write whatever text you wish in the Text slot. Paste the url for the image in the URL slot.
That will make it perform as in the post above that says "velveeta cheese".
One drawback to this method when making picture threads is that you cannot Preview.
Please, to keep loading time reasonable, see that your images are no wider than 800 and no higher than 700. (Most hosting sites offer 800x600 as one of their size options.)
Have fun & let me know if you have questions.

Featuring our locations in the mini-profile area is again possible. If you want to share your location, be sure to fill in the appropriate space in Edit profile> Personal.

Note that there is now a spell checker on the forum. It is set up for American English, so all of you who write humour instead of humor are just going to have to keep your sense of humor about things & shrug that off.
It doesn't activate unless you press the Spell Check button, so if the American English bias is too annoying, try using whatever spell check is built into your browser.

See the floating arrows at the far right of the page? They're semi-transparent & point up when you're at the bottom of the page or point down when you're at the top. Clicking on them takes you back to the top of the page or down to the bottom.

A helpful addition. Thank you! It especially comes in handy for tablet users who typically have an easy way to get to the top of a page, but not to quickly scroll to the bottom.

Oh, I finally found the arrow, which was completely invisible, by moving the cursor around until it detected it. And yes, I actually can see the arrow but only when it is in a blank zone with no writing or background image.

Hmm. I see the arrow as straddling the right margin of the forum -- half on the forum portion & half on the background portion. I couldn't see it at all at first because I was looking for something more obvious. Maybe it has to be darker to accommodate all screen settings, although I like how unobtrusive it is.

My arrow is completely in the forum portion on my big wide screen, but I will check tonight on the other computer.

Okay, thanks. At least it's in the forum portion & not in the background, where it would probably be completely invisible.
How wide is your screen? Apparently everything on the internet has not yet caught up to the new very wide screens.

When the up/down arrows first became available I had two, one for each direction. Now I only have one that sits at the bottom right of the page and it alternates between directions. It's a finicky, misbehaving little devil.

Are you sure? I'm asking because on my page I can only see the one to go up when I'm toward the bottom of the page, & the one to go down when I'm near the top. There's no real way of knowing if it's the same lil arrow, or two individuals that magically appear in their appointed spots.
If a tree falls in the forest .................
Seriously, though, if I'm at the bottom of the page & use the mouse to push that thingy in the vertical scroll bar towards the top of the page, eventually I do see the up arrow become a down arrow.
There is a lesson in this, Grasshopper.

Well.....I saw two before, and they were floating on the page at the same time. Now I only see one, and that's even when I scrunch my page down really small. Having two arrows allowed me to scroll down part way, change my mind, and then return to the bottom, and vice versa. Basically I have to go all the way to the bottom before going back to the top. With one arrow it's not as easy. No big deal. Maybe there was a Mac update or something. I just thought I'd mention it in case you had some control over the display.
