I was expecting it, but I received my electric bill for the past two months yesterday. It's about 4 times more than the previous one. I was expecting it, but still! About 380€. (My place is all electric, no gas.)
Tonight it should snow yet again -- they are saying between 1 cm and 5 cm before dawn in Paris.

OUCH ! That hurts !
It snowed here yesterday. The compressed little leftover snow has turned into ice, then it snowed over again. Bloody slippery !

Here it is dark and raining for days. Last evening the air was clear, no clouds and I was hoping a sunshine today.
A Sunshine Hope.

The sun is out here right now but it will only last a few minutes. The next clouds are already coming up again.

I haven't seen the sun for months. Here it is dark grey and very cold. I am reduced to wearing thermals under my jeans... I am longing for warmer weather and then I'll buy some springlike clothes to cheer myself up.

I've already bought some summer clothes... a skirt and a bikini. It didn't help the mood for more than 5 minutes though.

Confidence my dear, no woman I know buys themselves a bikini unless they have the confidence to wear it. This is a good thing. Don't let my early a.m .prattle ruin it.

it is sunny here today, so i feel bad about not leaving the house...
my heating bill is included in my rent though... on the other hand, i don't heat that much anyway, but dress warm indoors... well not really fully out of choice, more because my place is kind of old and there is always a slight draft...

Does anybody in the Northern hemisphere actually expect to have non-cold winters ?
Don't bemoan how cold it is this year, be grateful about how mild it's been for quite a few years before this ....

We have had one of the hottest Januarys on record here and February, which usually is cooler has been unusually hot too. Even with a recent rate cut, my electric bill has also been higher than usual, I guess due to running the fan constantly. Usually my bill is about 10,000 pesos in summer when in winter it is more like 20,000-25,000. This summer it is running around 18,000. Still it is a lot cheaper than yours, but we use gas for cooking and the water heater.
My brother is working in the UK for a few months, he seems to have gotten the brunt of bad weather since he arrived.
gyro - I'd say it depends. I lived in San Francisco for years and the winters were always mild. Of course there you hardly get a summer either.

About 90% of the winters in Paris have been mild since I moved here. So "real" winters are definitely an exception.

Gringa, fair play. When I said 'northern hemisphere' I was thinking mainly of northern Europe in all honesty. Being a small minded to55er and all .....

Since early December we've always had snow. It's been more than two months. I cannot remember this happened before here. January was way colder than average. But you are right, the last winters were so mild that we're not used to the cold anymore.

I'll be glad when people stop gassing on about the weather and find something interesting to OP about ....

Yes, it's a special form of tragedy when a person so able to make lively, interesting OPs is unavoidably detained by pointless posts about the weather. And further, that potential good OP maker is positively compelled to comment on how much he dislikes people commenting on the weather. Sad, really.

As far as I'm concerned it's not so much the 'damn winter this year' but the damned heating bills that have not yet appeared. I live in dread.
