For what it's worth, here is a Reuter's report published less than an hour ago. And this news story is a reminder of just one of the zillions of undercurrents affecting the Geneva talks and other international agreements.

In any case, it is the usual situation of the strong developed countries bullying and blackmailing the developing countries to squeeze more money out of them. We won't let them develop anything, but we sure don't mind if they pay a bundle of money of it and also pay for the controls to go with it. And then we have the nerve to wonder why the developing world resents us?

The ones we "bully and blackmail" usually deserve it - and are getting off easy in my view. Objecting to questionable nuclear development programs by nations with a track record of belligerence is not only rational but responsible - I'm not sure how that translates into "not letting them develop anything". Perhaps if more nations put less focus on resenting us we'd put more focus on supporting them.

I can't think of a single country that Iran has attacked in recent memory. It was, however, attacked by Iran in 1980. As we all know, the United States supported the Iraq of Saddam Hussein in this war.
The irony of it all.

Might be better if they did attack instead of just terrorizing everyone - then there would be justification to do something about it. Oh, wait, no, the UN would need someone to prove that they really meant to attack. As for Iraq/Iran, different era, different world.

Horrors, it sounds as if you want to attack Iran. That would mean killing and maiming countless people, very few of whom are ruling mullahs or government. Moreover, I don't know who this "us" is. Do you really think most Iranians give much thought to resenting Canadians?

I was wondering the same thing. Uh, your passport cover isn't dark blue by any chance?

Do you really think most Iranians give much thought to resenting Canadians? Please see post #31... apparently the whole developing world resents us. I don't want to attack Iran or anyone for that matter - but I also won't stand for the terror (i.e. the constant threat) it's leaders endorse.

Looks to me like it is our world that is threatening theirs constantly. They are only reacting, but apparently our side thinks they should just kneel down and say "thank you for telling us what to do with our lives."
