Isn't he the very picture of the classically trained orchestra member? Well, he is part of an orchestra -- the Ukele Orchestra of Great Britain, which recently performed to a sold-out crowd at the Royal Albert Hall. Read all about them here and enjoy audio and video on their website.

I listened to that Prom on the radio, bixa. The "shtick" (in what is primarily a classical music series) was that they got everyone in the audience who had their ukelele with them (about 1000 people) to join them in playing Beethoven's Ode to Joy theme. It was really rather moving - made an extract and posted it here: autolycus-london.blogspot.com/2009/08/joy-of-ukelele.html

Ohhhhhhh, Patrick! That was wonderful ~~ thank you. I did not have to "creep tearfully away", but there was some blotting of the eyes due to the sheer joy of listening to so many people happily enjoying themselves. Did you hear the exuberant yip towards the end?

The ukelele is an under appreciated instrument. I have always liked its simplicity.
