In this part of the world, Halloween has become MASSIVE in the last few years. Temporary costume stores pop up all over the place just like fireworks stores in the US around July 4.
While i can understand kid's interest in this, I have never understood why so many adults get caught up in it. I absolutely despise adult Halloween parties! Some friends of ours used to have one every year and we couldn't say no and certainly could not show up without costume. It's always the same thing - someone shows up and it's "Ha ha ha ha ha, look at him he's Fred Flintstone or look at her, she's a banana - and then you all spend the evening having perfectly normal conversations but looking like complete idiots. I don't get it.
Sorry to be a party pooper - no-one likes a party more than I do, but I just can't get into this gig. What about everyone else?

No way for me! It was a big relief that the Halloween fad only lasted about 4 years here. I'm pretty sure that Disneyland Paris was the culprit that started the fad, along with a McDonald's tie-in. The French post office even issued Halloween stamps for 2 years, to show you how bad it got.
Now Halloween goes unnoticed again, except by Disneyland and the ex-pat anglo-saxon bars.

I don't have much choice in that matter, imec. My youngest one still loves Halloween. He likes to look scary and get the candy, just like most kids. I agree, it's BIG here in North America, I kind of get into the 'spirit; of it, yes.

You can't see Dorothy's feeties, Kerouac, so of course you can't see ruby slippers.
Who's the guy on the left supposed to be?
All kids love Halloween, but I had no idea it had gotten to be a big deal for adults in Canada & France. How about the US -- there also?
My dad's birthday was Oct. 31, so the theme was pretty predictable, but I don't think there was ever a costume party for adults. They can be fun, but I can definitely see Imec dreading a yearly one.
I absolutely hate that the scary/ghosts/witches Halloween crap is invading Mexico because it's a hideous overlay on the Days of the Dead. That celebration is beautiful and moving, besides being lots of fun.

On the left is the wicked witch of the west, no?

Good one! I kept wondering if any kind soul would try to approach and calm the woman.

Fortunately I know very few adults who enjoy costume parties.
Livia is dressing up as a black cat, and I'll be her "familiar", or vice-versa.
Indeed, I really got to appreciate the Days of the Dead through bixa's reports. In general, they are friendly spirits.

i like costumes, though i haven't been to (or been invited to) any costume parties for adults. i like occasionally dressing up, too, when going to a costume party with my kid. for halloween, a. was wearing her "emil" costume, so i dressed up as emil's mom, which was relatively simple - just a skirt and an apron and my hair in a bun.

about the video - i must admit, i never feel quite good about that type of joke, because i wouldn't enjoy being there. i suppose this one is not as mean as some others, as you are one of many people there and thus might not feel as threatened, but even then ... i always wonder how they make sure no one has a heart condition, is prone to going into labour due to stress, or anything similar ... i suppose most people would realized quite quickly it is a joke, but there are people who would think it is real, and i don't really like making a joke of anyone's fears ...

Livia is dressing up as a black cat, and I'll be her "familiar", or vice-versa. Just now saw this. Good one, LaGatta! Rikita, I really don't like practical jokes, but that one seemed sort of in line with flash dances in terms of safely pranking the public.
