After driving in from a neighbouring country, I was not inspired by the thought of real cooking so I cooked a couple of 'cordon bleu' in butter. In France, this refers to a flattened chicken breast folded over a slice of ham and cheese and then breaded. It is considered to be a dish for unadventurous children. (Invented some time in the second half of the 20th century according to Wikipedia. There are at least a half dozen versions for sale in any French supermarket.)

wasn't a bad of tomato sauce, just a bit of sauce spread on the bread, and for me quite spicy (though for people into spicy food not that much, probably ...) anyway, will try more different dishes over time ...

an instant soup agnes wanted - tomato and noodles, shaped like ghosts and pumpkins ... added various vegetables (peas, green beans, carrots, zucchini, green bell pepper), also a slice of toasted potato bread.

armer ritter (bread soaked in milk and egg and then fried). part "savoury", with added zucchini, carrot and peas also fried, part "sweet" with banana and raisins and almonds, and eaten with apple sauce and preserved cherries.

I actually had a microwaved tartiflette from the supermarket and was rather surprised at how good it was, because I was not expecting much.

today was one of our more common meals - spinach, potatoes, scrambled eggs.
yesterday i had planned milk rice for a. and me, but then mr. r's shift got changed, and i didn't have enough milk rice for three people, so i decided to make baked hokkaido pumpkin slices with some cheese and other things - but mr. r. made a face at that idea, and also we had no more baking sheets, so in the end i bought some pierogy in the freezer, that i had bought in a polish store - one package filled with cabbage and mushrooms, the other package filled with fruit. so we had the first type with cream and also some fried vegetables, the second type as dessert with cherries and/or apple sauce.

I love those cabbage (often sauerkraut) and mushroom pierogi - often I find the ones stuffed with potato a bit much in terms of double carbs.
Too early for tonight's supper, but last night I made a Greek salad and was pleasantly surprised with the flavour of the organic greenhouse tomatoes. They weren't expensive either - they are from a shop that sells "natural" products at a far better price than other places do. And some little chunks of what we call Lebanese cucumbers, but see that they are more often called Persian cucumber. That is because there is a very large Lebanese community here, and a tiny Iranian or other Persian-speaking one. And good Greek feta. I was very lucky in terms of the prices for those items as well.
I've made more fishcakes (you know, when one is trying to perfect something) and may have some tonight, with more of the salad ingredients but no feta. I'm really craving fresh vegetables.

Lamb knuckles. I buy these from Woolworths because they pack them in size so each one is like the next. I braised them in lots of thyme and rosemary fresh from my garden and other stuff. Then I roasted them in lamb fat. I reduced the braising liquid and served it as a gravy with baby roasted potatoes, white rice, garlic green beans and roasted pumpkin. I have plans for the leftovers.

Beef with vegetables and a sauce of mustard and honey. Took me one hour to do it, but my wife (and the kids !) said two times that it was very good. Woine (like woine paris) was so-so.

Pickled hake - homemade by not by me. I supplied the fish tho. A salad of lettuce, red onion, tomato, and feta cheese with an Italian dressing. Potato salad made with capers (not small gerkins or cornischons), mustard, horseradish, and hot sauce in the form of smoked jalapenos mixed into mayo.
I also grilled pork sausages for me.

last night was pizza ... i think next time we will take the already-prepared squares, rather than order two fresh prepared round ones, as it took a long time and waiting with an impatient kid wasn't fun. mentioned i was exhausted to mr. r., when i got home (while i was setting the table and he was watching impatiently - not like he wouldn't have known we will be there soon and bring pizza and thus need some plates on the table), and he asked "why?" in a very surprised voice ...

I had my semi-annual pizza, a 3-cheese thing from the refrigerated section of the supermarket, to which I added a few duck fragments and some chopped garlic. I ate 75% of it and had the last 25% cold for breakfast this morning.
