Tonight we had leftovers. I had quite a lot of Spanish Rice so decided in an instant to make rice & cheesy noodle muffin thingy's. I mixed the rice with those instant noodles after putting them in their hot water & flavor. Then added the last of a small bag of mixed stirfry veg -microwaved. Added feta, mozzarella, and gouda grated cheese and lastly 2 eggs whipped with a tablespoon of leftover creme fraiche. Pressed into muffin pans and Yorkshire pud pans and in the oven to brown. Not bad for a leftover. I took twelve to my sons house for him and the kids.

I'm making empanadas later today. Not a lot of work because I bought the tapas (dough rounds). I'll eat a couple of them with some green salad.
Livia is having cat food. Mostly dry, but a bit of fancy wet food, a "gift" from the pet food shop.
Livia doesn't really like "human" food like roast chicken... bizarre.

I am working my way through the freezer. Whenever I bake small pies I make spare ones to freeze, but I don't keep them for more than a few weeks as I'm never certain how long it's safe to keep them. Anyway...tonight OH had a beef in red wine pie and I had a chicken and leek in white sauce one. Little roast potatoes and mixed veg (carrot, broccoli and cauliflower). I couldn't eat all mine...I need to make smaller pies.

This evening I made us a quiche...we had half between us for dinner and OH will scoff the rest cold for supper. It has onion, bacon and lots of cheese in it, 3 eggs and half a pint of cream. OH gave it 10/10 here's the half that's left...

Looks pretty good! I had smoked trout laid on Belgian endive leaves and covered with red lump eggs. I figured that if the food was relatively healthy, it wouldn't matter if I drank a bit more than usual.

That is normal on New Year's Eve!
I made empanadas. Obviously didn't eat them all. A couple of empanadas, green mixed salad, a bit more wine than usual but nothing that will make me drowsy tomorrow. Bed beckons on this freezing night, doubt I'll stay up until midnight.
At least three of my closest friends are away now - a wise move on their part, given the cold wave - so I won't really party like it's 1999 until their return.

I'm boiling spaghetti right now to have with the pesto I just made, to be accompanied by the very out-of-season cucuzza from a volunteer vine. I deliberately waited for tonight to cut it. The sad news is that I just realized there is not a drop of wine in this house. *sigh*

Yesterday my friend brought dinner over. She made us roulade with spaetzle and gravy. I made a German salad and green beans. DELICIOUS!

Oh, that sounds so good and seasonally appropriate. Do you mean a German potato salad, or some other kind, such as cabbage?
Since the friends I usually have festive suppers with are away, I didn't make any red cabbage this year. Plenty of time when they return later this month.
I have some good leftovers from the New Year's dinner a downstairs neighbour/old friend made for his family, including a slice of duck tourtière. Not eating it tonight; I'm not very hungry and just had a bit of cheese and salad.

It was so good Lagatta and with this cold weather it was a comforting meal. I thought after I posted that I should have said more than "German Salad" even though that was name of the recipe I used, it is rather a generic name for a recipe. I thinly sliced cucumber, roma tomatoes and onion and then made a dressing with sour cream, milk, vinegar, Dijon mustard, fresh dill and parsley, salt and pepper, combined and let sit in the fridge for a couple of hours, it was a nice compliment to the rouladen. My husband worked New Year's Eve so my friend offered to bring supper over on the 1st and I spent the day making vegetable, cheese and meat trays and some dips for more friends we invited over for an after dinner party!
Looking forward to hearing about your gatherings when your friends return to the city!

I have eaten similar salads in Germany; rikita might know the actual name. That sounds delicious. We had a friend from Vienna who made wonderful Mitteleuropean food... sadly, he died some years ago.
The friend returning from a long stay in Cuba will be freezing, even if the extreme cold wave is over by then!

Last night I made spicy lentil soup with chunks of ham mopped up with herby fougasse bread...and this evening we had lamb and vegetable curry with rice and chapatis...(chapatis not home made)

Since you mentioned that the chapatis weren't home made, I presume that the fougasse was?
I'm not having braised duck this evening. I mention that because I'm braising the duck, in a bit of white wine (it really doesn't take a lot - a ZA Chenin blanc, tod2 - adding a brunoise. I'll have something else, probably the rest of the stir-fry I made last night. I found some very fresh gai choy - "mustard vegetable" with a faint, pleasant mustardy taste.

I had a salad of "mixed young sprouts" (that's what the bag says) along with a big wedge of camembert and some slices of cured Bayonne ham.
I grilled a duck breast a couple of days ago, always wonderful because of the skin and the layer of fat that has to be seared. I hadn't planned to buy it, but I am a sucker for the last minute discounts for expiration date meats. I still regret the fact that in a blind taste test, it would be very easy to mistake duck for beef. That is really a shame. They want to make everything taste like beef now. Just about all lamb also tastes like beef now.
Down with beef!

Late comida at Macelleria Roma, in Mexico City. We shared both a grilled endive salad and a beet and goat cheese salad. Then Doña Cuevas had a grilled filet of salmon in a pastry shell. I had pappardelle with beef ragu, which was excellent but unfortunately, not very hot. I sent it back for rewarming, and 10 minutes later, it returned, just a little warmer than before. —Sigh—. But over all it was an excellent meal

belated christmas dinner at my dad's (well we also had one on christmas eve - but my brothers were celebrating each at their partners' families then, so now there was one for the whole family, my mom was there, too) - bouletten (fried meat balls) and potato salad. i am not a big fan of potato salad, but the meat was very nice ...

Last night I made another 'kitchen invention' dish. I had a yearning for aubergine (eggplant/brinjal). I sliced the rounds into one and a half inch pieces and sliced a second 'pocket' in each. Stuffed them with minced garlic, feta cheese and oregano. Scattered chopped onion and bell pepper around and poured over a cream tomato sauce before baking in the oven. Was pretty good. Sorry I did not take a photo now.
Tonight I have four lovely little rainbow trouts to oven bake.
