I've definitely been promoted, from the cargo area to Tall Ship Cruises. Things are looking up.

Escape to the exotic charm of a resort in Ko Chang.
Oh dear. Ko Chang is a national park. As such it is not supposed to be developed but due to corruption in Thailand there are now resorts springing up there. When I was there nine years ago they were just starting but it was still a long journey from Bangkok. Once they opened the airport in Trat it became just a quick flight away.
Sigh.

Sigh. When I was returning from Sihanoukville with a friend, we came back into Thailand through Trat, which was not exactly a tourist hotspot and there were few restaurants catering to Western needs (such as a printed menu). We met a charming German university professor who possessed a wealth of knowledge about all things Thai. The next day, I took the bus back to Bangkok because I had to leave, but my friend went to Koh Chang. She said that within half a day, she saw our elderly German friend on the beach with two nymphettes clearly providing him with all necessary services. She said that Koh Chang was already totally spoiled -- and this was in 2004.

We were in Ko Chang in 2000 and it was being developed. A road was piercing through pristine jungle following the west coast. There was one resort within walking distance of our bungalow. We strolled through this resort and in January it was totally empty. We asked the price of accommodation and it was more than 2000 baht.
We went right down to the south of the island and came across an amazing small town built on stilts out in the sea (I forget the name and the guide book is 2 floors down and I don't wan to get it). A street went out over the water and there were even cross streets. There were shops, houses, cafe's, and even two snooker halls. All of it, as I said, on stilts in the sea. Amazing.
