Lovely Sicilian eggplants aka aubergines - globular, violet and cream coloured, cut into thick slices, brushed with olive oil and grilled on a little indoor Tfal grill. Sometimes I put the grill out on the back balcony, good thing I didn't as it is pouring rain (tail end of Bill). I'm eating these with garlicky pita breads.
I also braised 2kg of chicken legs in my new-to-me crockpot, with some stock I had left over and onions, celery and some rather dried-out but still flavourful garlic (I want to use it up as I have wonderful new organic garlic from the market). I boned the chicken legs and removed the skin (braising works better with the skin, but flabby chicken skin isn't worth the fat) threw them back into the crockpot with more bones and the green leafy-stemmy parts of new onions. Will leave this all night at low. There are also coriander (cilantro) roots in the broth - the cilantro I bought today had nice fat roots.
The chicken legs - good ones from a butcher's I like at the market - are plenty of meat for the week for me. I'm trying not to eat any charcuterie etc.
I'm not very hungry tonight - it is very hot and humid by our standards and I feel a tiny bit nauseated. Must drink lots of water.
Work is slow, en attendant la rentrée, so I'm also trying to be really thrifty.

Yesterday's dinner started with French Onion Soup, steamed broccoli, broiled rib eye steak and baked potato, finishing with apple pie and a slice of sharp Cheddar cheese. However, I had to defer the steak, potato and broccoli, as we were visiting an ailing relative in the hospital. I got hungry while there, so went to the in-hospital McDonald's, where I had a surprisingly very good 1/3 lb Angus cheeseburger deluxe, fries and a medium Coke.
Bake at the house, I had some of the Onion Soup, and for a belated dessert, a serving of apple pie.

Very simple tonight (because I have no energy) -- 2 hamburger steaks + frozen aligot. I think I will throw some raw chopped onions on top of both. Aligot is a mixture of mashed potatoes with cheese.

Yes, the allium family is supposed to be good for cutting cholesterol.
Not that my pasta with tripe sauce I had for a late lunch would have any cholesterol, uh unnnh!
I just made a fruit salad.

Tonight I will barbecue some pork ribs again. I also bought a big white radish at the Chinese supermarket that I plan to grate for a salad along with red onions, tomato, and cilantro as well as whatever else I might find. Hmmm... my little jar of anchovies might be a good addition.

Bixa:
You and all of you with your tripe and offal, yuk!! Although I do like foie gras and some pate, so I guess there is a conflict here. I think however, those two items I don't put in the same category and I think it is because I can remember everytime my mom would do liver and onions that the smell as I was gagging would drive me to the front porch after a generous banging of the front door.

Today's lunch was very light" a cup of gazpacho, and a section of a vegetable fritta.
(Last night was a sumptuous meal out, at Avenue Bistro and Pub, in Verona, NJ. I had softshell crabs over garlicky capellini and fresh basil.)

Find something not to like in this list:
softshell crabs capellini, garlicky basil, fresh

I am craving potato pancakes, and I think that's what it will be tonight, even though they are more difficult to digest than at lunch. My grandmother's recipe has evolved from my boyhood, because there is no one to tell me that adding curry powder, garlic purée, Old Bay Spice and chopped cilantro is not part of the Vosgian way of doing things.

Last night - it was a little too chilly to eat outside so we had our picnic next to the patio door in the kitchen. Porchetta, Capicolo, Parma Prosciutto, dried sausage, baby dills, tomatoes, assorted olives, bread and butter pickles, assorted bread and a Costieres de Nimes Rose - followed by some cheese - Appenzeller, Delice de Bourgone, Chaumes and Saint Agur and some ripe green figs and a wee bit o' Tawny Port (Cockburns 10yr).

Your dinner is my idea of the perfect meal. And, I also wish for less than 100 degrees right now.

Wouldn't beer be the perfect accompaniment.
Marrow is definitely not one of my favorites. T63, how come you'll eat that, but barf at "variety meats"?

We are having pasta with pesto, cold roast pork and salads and lots of fruit: quetsch plums from the garden, figs from my walk, melon from a neighbour, peaches from a villager.

I don't think we will be eating much for dinner tonight seeing as we had friends for lunch and I prepared a selection of mediterranean dishes: - my version of Aubergine Imam - a chickpea dish - courgette fritters - stuffed corne di bue - salad of cooked bellpeppers

My pasta urge has been sidetracked by a more extreme urge for smoked herring with boiled potatoes and chopped onions. I would normally want sour cream with that, but I happen to have a container of tzatziki, which should fill in more than adequately.
