I'm making a tortilla (in the Spanish sense, not the Mexican) with duck eggs and Yukon Gold yellow potatoes. Onion and garlic. I've been craving one for a while.

Baz, surely it's not up to her though, is it? If you want a curry then you'd think she'd do this one small thing for you after all those years of things you've done for her. Obviously trouble is afoot.
She's not started 'staying late at the office', has she?

(an April Fool's joke in France is called an April fish)
I'm having leftovers --> yesterday's liver and onions mixed with the leftover rice from the prawn curry.

Here is the prawn thing from the other night. I never give the rice enough importance, and that is wrong. And yes, I saved a few radishes from the rubbish, even though they were unauthorized in such a dish.

but I guess you know what I was thinking, don't you?
The prawn thing looks scrumptious. Was it a cold or a hot dish? Either way, it must have been good.
Yesterday I finally fixed the bacalao I bought last week. I used Yucatecan paste seasoning, fresh tomatoes, chayote, peppers, onion, garlic and ......... it was boring. It wasn't bad, but it sure didn't sing. I'm having it again tonight in the hopes that it's one of those things that improve with a day in the fridge.

I am kicking myself at this very moment for not having stopped at the roadside stand selling fresh shrimp this morning! Particularly after seeing Kerouac's prawns. We are going out for some Japanese food tonight,I really want sushi. When the weather starts to turn warm like it has,I am in the mood for. (I would have opted for oysters again but,we just had a week ago. My response was "So?".)

Speaking of shrimp...as it was a lovely day, we impulsively drove a few miles in the direction of Morelia to our favorite seafood restaurant, Mariscos La Güera Campestre. It's a large complex of various dining rooms, a beer garden, a fast food stand, a carwash, a kid's playground, horseback riding, and now, I found out, a car repair shop. As they now serve breakfast, I'm hoping that they open a B&B. Then life would be complete. But the truth is, we live only 15 minutes away. But we go for the seafood, especially the shrimp. The staff is sharp and attentive (and the waitresses are cute); the food is fresh and as well prepared as one might wish for. Today, Doña Cuevas started with a tostada de marlin guisado (shredded smoked marlin in a mildly spicy sauce) and I a tostada of impeccable ceviche de pescado and another of ceviche de calamar. For a plato fuerte, Doña C had a brocheta de camarones, interspersed with bacon, onion and sweet red pepper, grilled, as we say, to perfection. I had the smaller plate of 5 camarones empanizados, and it all was excellent. I didn't take any photos, but it's all been well covered on previous visits. See here if you like: picasaweb.google.com/doncuevas/MariscosLaGuera#There are pics of both the "Mother" restaurant in Pátzcuaro and the new, "Campestre" one on the highway.

In honour of this glorious day...sunny and it will be 26!... I am going to have friends for the first barbequed trout of the season. So good. There will be a fresh salad and a simple potato dish, gratin dauphinois.

Dinner tonight did not happen. I had a succession of weird snacks. Surimi. Rillettes on Wasa. Wedges of fresh goat cheese. Then I realised that I had eaten more than enough and that my real meal option had expired.

Just ate a small bowl of Flor de Mayo frijoles, topped with some fried chorizo bits and a little tomato sauce.
There are two crusty brown loaves, just now out of the oven, waiting to have pieces torn off and slathered with sweet butter.

Don't know what will happen regarding dinner tonight as there are two separate sets of friends in town and am trying to figure out how to coordinate seeing them both. Maybe lunch with one set and dinner with the other.Maybe combine them all together...have no idea how this is going to pan out. It's too early to worry about.

Yesterday lunch, I improvised a purple sprouting broccoli and ricotta sauce and hid a little wholewheat noodles under it. Maffoo is still talking about how nice he thought that was.
tonight I made a hot chilli. with a tiny bit of wholegrain basmati rice to mix with.

Hmmm... should I make something special tomorrow for Easter? I hadn't thought about it, but all of the food places will be open until 13:00 at least...
Tonight, I just had some Indian style but Chinese made samosas.

I have only wanted pretty plain stuff. Already had my supper -- I guess it was supper, even though it was at four in the afternoon. I had a sudden yen for gazpacho, so made a very dark green one with lots of cilantro, a small poblano, a couple of carrots & small plum tomatoes. That, a tortilla & a sardine hit everything in the food pyramid, I think.

Plain here, also. I was going to make spaghetti with white clam sauce, but la Señora starting nibbling snacks, and I followed.
We spread ripe avocado on whole grain toast, I had some sharp cheddar cheese, a couple of glasses of vino tinto, and a good nap.

Last night I made pasta. Campanelle with arugula and cherry tomatoes in a lemony cream sauce. Tonight will be paella, with clams, mussels, shrimp and crab claws. Inspired by Bixa's dinner last night, I decided to add a first course of gazpacho. Here's last nights pasta:

K2, your prawn dish looks beautiful. What was in it besides the prawns, rice and "unauthorized" radishes?

Goodness,no one seems to be going hungry on the Port these last couple of days! Jeez,Lola, your Easter Brunch would have done me in for the rest of the day. I have had a yen for gazpacho of late too, maybe this week I'll make some. Cristina, all your food always sounds and looks good. Your pasta dishes in particular.
We are having a beef brisket that's been in the oven all day with a batch of roasted potatoes and a nice salad starter and some fresh asparagus with a nice baguette my baker friend brought by with some other baked goods from her bakery.(End of the day goodies that I score most Sundays from her after she closes).Fresh strawberries for dessert.

I've made joanne's little salmon cakes with corn. They are very sweet (I added a bit of finely-chopped sweet pepper for colour, as well as some chipotle and a squirt of Hungarian paprika sauce) but took FOREVER to make. Perhaps because I added a potato as well as some breadcrumbs and the white of a big duck egg. The paste was almost like that used to make quenelles. Very delicate to handle.
They aren't quite perfect yet, but definitely going into the rotation. The corn kernels make them very special - definitely a good food for pot luck buffets.
That an a salad - romaine and some of my homesprouted bean sprouts.
I'm not really celebrating Easter this year. A close friend who has been in Cuba for three months - she does amateur archaeology in her retirement - is returning and that is when we'll do a fancy supper.

Made the spaghetti with white clam sauce. It had plenty of clams but was a bit short on broth. However, I managed to eat two bowls of it, spaced a few hours apart.
Accompanying were some crisp cuke slices and sweet red peppers. There was also some nice green chard.
I forgot to bring home the cannoli...

Ha ~~ good one!
I am making a thing. I had a bunch of little squash I needed to use up, so I grated them & a couple of carrots & mixed in sauteed onions & garlic & a few minced herbs. I added eggs & milk plus a little maseca (tortilla mix) to absorb excess moisture from the zucchini. It got topped with bread crumbs while I tried to force my mind away from the word "cheese". We shall see.
Amended to add that it is baking right now.
