It is also very cruel to show photos of aging rock stars, especially when so much of their music was to tell the world how great it is to be young and what a bunch of crap the older people are.

My policy is to forgive people for getting older, in case I might ever do it, too. In fact, if they discard all the unflattering photos in the world it would be all right with me. Rose colored glasses, please.

I actually prefer the way some of them look older. I say some, certainly not Keith Richards...
I was in Las Vegas on the day that Elvis died. There were women who were on their knees wailing at the top of their lungs in front of the newspaper machines showing the headline and photo. It was so bizarre!

Keith never would have been my dream man anyway even as a young squirt.

Keith never would have been my dream man anyway even as a young squirt. Not my dream man either but I always liked him way more than Mick. Never went in much for pretty boys, like 'em a little rougher looking but maybe not that rough...

Speaking of Mick and Keith, anyone else ever seen the documentary film Cocksucker Blues?

It's a very raw documentary they made in 1972 or 73 that was (understandably) never officially released but has been making the rounds as an underground film ever since. Unvarnished rock star excess.

Amazing to be in Vegas that day. One of the poems I know in its entirety:
Gather ye rosebuds while you may; Elvis Presley is forty today.
This was published in the Missouri Review way back when. Can't remember the poet.

I agree with the comments posted after the article. Of course rock singers get old -- those who make it that far. So what?
I recently saw the Shine a Light movie with the Stones -- Mick Jagger can still dance and move with the best of them. It is true that Keith Richards looks like he was buried and dug up again, but I guess drugs will do that to you.

I can sure think of lots of rock stars who never got a chance to get old.
However, I am against geriatric rock, just like geriatric strip tease. Do we still need to see Iggy Pop's body?

I never needed to see Iggy Pop's body, come to think of it. Certainly not his bellybutton. Having to sing like an angry 19 yo for 50 yrs or so, to keep the same hairdo, must be wearing.
