We used to throw chesnuts in the fireplace for that very reason or outside in the burning leaf piles in autumn. I miss Chesnut trees,even if they're a bit messy... In the oven though,pookie,that must have been scary.

just recently. making hard boiled eggs to decorate for friends.... the old, got on the computer and forgot.. until I heard the exploding eggs... yucccckkkk what a horrible smell they make. to say nothing of the mess.

My mother once had her pressure cooker explode all up the walls and on the ceiling.
That wouldn't have been fun.

Once, I made the mistake of opening a can of tomato paste that was bulging slightly (yes, I know that you should never do that, but I wasn't sure if it was my imagination or not). The moment I pierced the can, it violently sprayed me, the wall and the ceiling. Shocked at the violence, I jumped back and hit the shelves with the pots and pans. I was living in a studio apartment at the time, and these shelves were built with cement blocks and boards. The shelves collapsed with a tremendous din of pots banging together, and then there was silence except for the bottle of oil that had been knocked over in the collapse and was going gloop gloop gloop all over the floor.
Hours of fun!
