You all won't see me around much for a while, as I'm off in the morning to visit my mother & stepfather. My son will be there, and one of my brothers lives nearby with his family. It has been years since I was in the States for Christmas.
Who else is taking off for the holidays?

Bixa, have a great trip.
Mr. T63 and I leave on Tuesday for a little runaway, just going North in ARizona not very far. It is the first time in 40 years that we have gone somewhere for Christmas!!!! We will be back on the 28th, cause our grand girls are coming to visit!!!!!!

You could sneak down to Oaxaca instead. I know of an unoccupied house there.

Because of the snowstorm east of here, a lot of flights are cancelled to Boston and New York City (and to "sunny destinations" to the southeast). I do wish the rapid railway lines proposed to Boston and NYC would become reality. There is no longer any ways to travel to Boston by train - except for the absurdity of going down to NYC then backtracking...
Of course 50 or 60 years ago there were trains all the time.

We are staying put. But Christmas day, if the weather is fine, we'll take a picnic and venture to Sarlat. Lovely to see it without tourists. Then we will find somewhere unspoilt to walk and have our picnic in the sun. Back home for a a good dinner.
Of course if it rains and gales howl we won't do any of that.

Warm underwear? Even up here, I rarely do that. I would like some of these things though. Pity I hate ordering online - don't see them in the shops much: www.wintersilks.com/

We are expecting a whole photo essay of the Estados Unidos seen through Mexican eyes. And one on flora, food, and tumbleweed And you willl have something, eventually. (no way to load my photos until I get home) I even took pictures in the Mexico City airport yesterday, and from the windows of the planes leaving Oaxaca & Dallas. It was interesting to me to see people walking around in fashionable garments. If it weren't for Kerouac's fashion posts, I'd think everyone in the world lived in jeans or pinafores. I'm not going anywhere if I can help it. SO smart! I proabably mentioned this earlier, but if it weren't for my son traveling to my mother's house now, I would have preferred any other time of year. For one thing, it's cold here, and the whole plane experience yesterday was living hell. You could sneak down to Oaxaca instead. I know of an unoccupied house there. Well, for those who lost the opportunity for that this time around, remember that when Lola & I are staying at Kerouac's place, both my house & Lola's will be free for months! going North in ARizona not very far. Christmas day, if the weather is fine, we'll take a picnic and venture to Sarlat. Oh boy ~~ beautiful photo spreads on some different areas! Sounds wonderful, you all. Isn't it cold now in Oklahoma? HW, yes!!! Don't worry, I will take your advice about bundling up, including a vest or whatever it takes. I leave in 2 hours for Halifax!! Home for Christmas, dear homesick girl ~~ enoy it! To everyone not quoted, to those staying hearthside, have a lovely, happy holiday annd thank you so much for the kind thoughts and wishes.

We try to stay at home for Christmas if at all possible.
Not because it's such a wonderful holiday experience at our house (with no kids, and no family visitors, there's little Christmas spirit around here), but because air travel is bad enough when you DON'T have to deal with holiday crowds, bad weather, and overstuffed luggage. It's exponentially worse at Christmas time.
Even returning from Florida in mid-December is a pain - three years running now we've had to either spend the night enroute or fly into an alternate airport and rent a car to get home in the middle of the night. Last year was a blizzard, this year fog.
Holiday travel, bah humbug!
(Of course, I will miss my Mommy!)

Boy, you summed it up, Kimby! I took a total of six planes to get to & from my destination. Not a single one took off or arrived on time. The American Airlines flight from Mexico City to Dallas was so awful that I felt myself becoming airsick, something that never happens to me. I remember thinking as the plane shuddered & bumped its way through the clouds, "if the damned thing goes down, at least I won't have to make the return trip".
