Never did thank you for your kind comment, Tod ~~ thanks! It's been quite cool here in the evenings and nights. That bud is developing very slowly. These are hosta buds. It was suggested in another thread that I might mistake a hosta for an aspidistra. ( ). This is one of the 23--45 species of hosta, and one of the 5,000+ cultivars.

I take it those are new shoots - the pink nobbles?

Yes they are. They are a beautiful colour for the first few weeks when they come through. It's a species paeony and the fruits are supposed to be very colourful but it's been too small to flower for me yet.

These bulbous little items were bought bare-root at the Christmas market. The seller said that they're not orchids, but I think it's pretty obvious that they are. He said to put them in the ground, so maybe he thought all orchids grew in trees. Whatever, they had nice roots on them and buds developing. Now, @ a month after planting, they look as though they might actually do something. Crinum, yesterday ~ and today ~

Yes, I would say fairly exotic in that the bright yellow petals are indispersed with thin red stamins?Maybe they are other petals - haven't really looked too closely in the past but hopefully the one that appears more open will flower before I leave on Sunday.
Your Haworthia has the most beautiful little heart-shaped leaves Mick! Can't wait to see the flower soon.

he flowers are pathetic little green white things that do nothing for the plant.
I cut them off.
All Haworthia flowers are like that with one exception that has tiny pink flowers.

Pelargonium asariifolium, last year's seedling - Crassula suzannae - Nananthus rosulatus - You can't see the buds but they really are there. This is usually the first cactus to flower each year - Mammillaria tepexicensis

You're right about not seeing the buds but what is that brown liquid in a glass just left and almost out of the picture.....Guinness, Coca Cola or something more to do with cacti???

That is certainly a beautiful photo taken of the Pont de Tolbiac looking towards the Bibliotheque Nationale de France(Fr.Mitterrand) on the right. I agree Bixa, it has a 'Japanese' feel to it with the buds on the trees!

The buds of the orchid in #95 above (taken mid-Jan) have opened! Not only that, another of the mystery orchids I got at Christmastime has buds. Here's the budded orchid alongside the one whose buds opened. The flowers in the pic are approximately life-sized ~ And here is a close-up of the tiny beauties ~

The peonies are coming up

Post by bixaorellana on Mar 18, 2011 13:49:09 GMT
That is exciting about the clematis reaching maturity, Cheery. Have any of the buds opened yet?
You know, this is the first time I've seen peony buds. My mother had a peony she loved, outside the kitchen door when we lived in Nebraska. I'm pretty sure its buds came up under the snow.

That's a herbaceous peony. I'll try to remember to take a pic of the tree peony buds tomorrow for you.
