The first crocus greens are peeking from the earth where the snow banks have receeded on the south side of the house. Won't be long for buds.

It might be my imagination, but I think the cottonwood buds are beginning to swell. Can't wait till they look like K2's photo above.

Ooo ~~ the peonies are little balls of incipient beauty! There's something so miraculous about how that sheath holds all that freight of little flowers in the allium. I like the buds as much as the flowers.

Gosh, you have some pretty aloes! I took a photo of one of mine in bud, but forgot to post it. Will host & do so.
Beautiful pictures, Cheery. I did not realize that delphinium would be blooming this late in the year.

My camellias are in bud. I have three. I remember your camellias from early on Spindrift. How are they faring??? Here's one of my 'new' Salvias I acquired this past year from my horticulture friend at Atlanta Botanical gardens. ( I'm going to have to get back to y'all with the name as it is escaping me at the moment....)

Super handsome Salvia, Casimira! I love the leaves, too. Are they scented? Somehow they look as though they are. This is not a very good photo, but I want everyone to keep fingers crossed that it's finally a flower bud. I've had this bird of paradise for almost a year. The nurseryman claimed then that it was just about to burst into bloom. That was the same place where I bought a great deal of soil that all had to be changed out later, it was so crappy.

Hey! That's our National flower Bixa - the Strelizia! Are they always only orange with a bright blue tongue? Can't wait for you to snap it in full bloom Hope I spelled it right

Really?! It seems to me there's a variation that's ivory colored with blue, but ........
I now think of many of things in my yard as Tod Plants, because you've either identified them for me or made the S.African connection. Once I realized some things were from your part of the world, I started trying to adjust for their internal seasons.
I must take a pic of my fuzzy friend, the Kalanchoe beharensis, which is in full bud & bloom (such as the blooms are). Is yours doing the same?

Casimira - my camellias are doing well. I had to move one from a very shady place to a sunny spot and it's growing so quickly. Although it is said that camellias do well in the shade, I am not so sure. I have a red and pink camellia in the sun against an old wall and I have a light pink one in a large pot. I would dearly love a spectacular white camellia but have no idea which one to choose. Any ideas on that?

Oh,it's a must have Spindrift!!!!. So simple yet elegant. Bixa,,about that Salvia in bud pictured above that you asked about.... It's name is' Anthony Parker' and it's a cross between the Salvia leucantha, "Midnight' cultivar and the Salvia elegans (Pineapple sage) we both know and love. Unfortunately,it does not have scented leaves. One of the many drawbacks when they start crossing species of plants as we well know. It does have many other virtues in it's growth habit and drought tolerance though. It is spilling out of the planter where I just a few months ago stuck in a mere cutting.

No one has identified this nice plant yet. (#93 here) Here it is in bud & opening up: Echeveria coccinea -- I want to know if this is budding & blooming for Tod, since it's from her part of the world. Kalanchoe beharensis --

Sort of creepy looking because of being taken last night with a flash. I am very proud of this angel trumpet (Brugmansia) bush. It was plagued with white fly, so I've sprayed the undersides of the leaves every time I've watered, plus cut it back mercilessly a couple of times. The dogs have also "helped" with the pruning more than once. It's had one good flush of bloom this year, but nothing like the promise it's holding out right now: This is a single branch:

I take it that it's white Brugmansia Bixa. Knock on wood I haven't had a white fly issue for years now. I see alot of green lacewings about and I think they take care of the little f'ers. Gardenia Talk about pestilence!!! These guys attract more pests than any plant I know of in NOLA. This is not in my garden, btw. Nice to see some activity in this thread!!

I LOVE gardenias, the smell is intoxicating. The petals are so lusciously thick and soft. Wish they would grow in Montana.
