I bought a bunch of daffodil bulbs in two varieties to naturalize at the lake cottage. If there’s any left, I’ll plant them around the house in town, too.
I think the problem with the non-blooming irises may be that I used blood meal as a deer repellent, and that is loaded with nitrogen, which propels leafy growth, but not blooms. I’ll only use bulb food from now on.
Also, the mulch that keeps them from freezing out probably needs to be pulled away from the corms at the start of the growing season.
Next summer I’ll probably have to divide them as they’re looking pretty crowded. Hardly seems fair, since I’ve only had one blooming stalk per year in the 3 seasons since I planted them.

A new variety of dahlia has been developed to cover the city of Paris and the Olympic sites for the games in 2024. It is a hybrid created mixing pink dahlias with the pollen of red dahlias. We will see.

The weather cooperated to let me plant all the daffodils at the lake cottage. Yippee. Something to look forward to next spring.
