Did you ever see Sweet Movie with Carole Laure? It is not a short video, but its climax with Carole Laure covered with liquid chocolate marked a generation.

No, I haven't, but it sounds interesting. I like honey more than chocolate though. My goodness, whatever happened to Carole Laure?

I don't know, but Sweet Movie briefly made her a superstar in France.

OK, now that I've read the Wiki précis of Sweet Movie, don't think I'll be clicking.

It did test the limits of censorship in its day, and we all know that there was much less censorship in the 1970's than now.

I know. I was a teenager in the seventies, from a small town. When I moved to the city I was terrified, because I thought life was all Punk, heroin and avant garde film and I didn't think I could cope. The reality turned out to be a lot more tame than I imagined.

I know that The Grand Budapest Hotel split the audiences pretty much in half, with detractors and admirers. I'm in the last camp. I ran across this little discussion of the film (part of a larger series about Wes Anderson, whom I'm not generally a great fan of).

Thank you for posting this, Lizzie. I found it quite interesting and it reminded me I want to watch the film again. I saw it on the plane on my way back from Paris last summer, and it is one of the few films that has kept my attention while I am flying.

I actually went to see it twice at the cinema.

I've seen it at least twice, and I have a copy of it now. I wonder what my father would think of it, as I'm always sending him movies I like.
It had a perfect balance of melancholy and comedy, with the melancholy sticking with me afterwards. It seemed very European to me, which suprised me.

I loved the Grand Budapest Hotel too. Maybe there's something that predisposes Any Porters to liking this film.

I wonder if there are any unpopped ones, like when I try to make popcorn.

Just found this online. Someone did a nice job of editing & the clips are quite clear, plus don't have that jerky silent movie movement. People really dressed up back then! Here is where I found the video. You can also check out the guy who uploaded it on youtube. He has an amazing variety of old film through the decades.

That video confused me because it looked so British, but their accents are so, well, normal.

Although projectionist was is a strange and interesting profession, I don't know of anybody here who really regretted the changeover. It was like having a chamber pot replaced by a modern flush toilet.

Thanks for posting this lizzyfaire. Yes, racism is real. And so is sexism. Not only men against women, but sadly women against women.
Some women who have any kind of power will give less opportunities to other women while glorying men for no reason at all.
When will it all ever change? Not anytime soon.
Best to be born, white, male and from the right side of the tracks!

Every now and then, I am a sucker to this sort of video.
However, the creator of these Vine videos died of bone cancer recently, so Ryan Gosling ate his cereal as a tribute to him.

Love the compilation, especially the parts where he knocks the spoon with his hand.
That was a great way for him to send out a condolence message.
