What exactly is burning there? Oil? Candles? Gas? For many, many years they burned kerosene but,I'm not sure if that's the case these days. I did not detect the smell of kerosene which I can smell a mile away as it is one of my favorite olfactory recalls dating back to growing up on the farm. I suspect that they now use some type of lamp oil. I will investigate further tonite at the parade.

Love that picture, Casimira!
Kerouac, did you vacillate between putting your pic here, or in "Circles"? Great photo, & French that even I can read.
Cheery, those are all wonderful, but the penultimate one ................ JEEZ -- it's fantastic!

I love the moss on deyana's fire ring rocks. (The moss probably does not love the fire, however.)

Where there's smoke, there's fire. They are burning slash piles left from cutting trees that were invaded by bark beetles. (Note the shocking number of red trees still standing.)

Kimby, my boys just lifted the big rocks from a rock pile which is situated on side of the acreage. Probably been there for many years.
Looking at the grass in that first photo, makes me realize just how quickly it's changed color. It's all very green right now.

They were actually paper cups, but still not authentic. The camp cook had to do all the dishes, too. I don't blame the volunteer at this museum for not taking on the whole job.

Until the recent rains, fire was all around us. This one was east of town. There were also fires burning near the lake cottage. It was hard to escape the smoke...

The upside of the cooler weather is that we finally got to test out the new wood stove. (The first couple fires have to be small ones, to season the firebrick inside.)

That was concluded before we got the wood stove. I wanted a gas fireplace (3 of them actually) as I'm tired of baby-sitting a wood stove. Mr. Kimby wanted a wood stove so bad that he volunteered to do all the stove and firewood chores. I plan to hold him to it, though I did stack the firewood in the garage after he split it.
