We haven't done this yet, have we? This lighthouse sits on the bluff above the Wisconsin River on the Petenwell Flowage. My Dad built it. The light is modified from a candle lantern I stole from a Holiday Inn lounge when I was in college...

What a beautiful photo and an exquisitely proportioned little lighthouse. I'm saying "little" based on the shrubs and buoys (?) around it. What are its actual dimensions?

Another of my father's lighthouse. The "sea" is the Petenwell Flowage of the Wisconsin River. The lighthouse is about 15 feet tall, but stands on a 40 foot tall bluff. It presides over a collection of old boats and buoys that recreates Maine in Wisconsin. It has become a bit of a boat magnet for boaters on the Petenwell.

Good for you. I hope to have a thread up in a day or two. (Where was your camera, Kimby?)Pre-digital days. I'm putting a slide scanner on my Santa list, though...

My scanner is already exhausted, but I keep flogging it. (Slide scanners are a true horror -- not the scanners themselves but the fact that no matter how hard you try, you absolutely cannot get rid of the lint on the photos. I have tried everything, and in the end all I can do is blur the black crap out of the sky with the photo retouch functions.)
Lovely lighthouse, Rikita. Where is that one?

I love the symbolism of the tips of continents -- which is why I went to the southern tip of Africa.

My parents have "collected" lighthouses all their lives. With their Michigan roots (Michigan has tons of coastline on several Great Lakes and more lighthouses than any interior state would be expected to have) and trips they have taken to both coasts and around the world, they have collected photos of many many lighthouses. Besides building their own (see OP).
For their 50th anniversary, we bought them a 2 night stay at a light house B&B on an island in California called East Brother.

Excellent lighthouses, Greyghost1. I am one of those people who dream of living in a lighthouse (but without having the lighthouse responsibilities!). the old lighthouse of the port of Dunkerque
