That sounds like an important topic handled very differently. Also, it would seem to be an exciting opportunity for the actors. I am glad for you!

At the homeowners' meeting tonight, I was finally able to worm my way out not only of being the president of the committee anymore but also not even a member of the 3-member council itself, this after more than 10 years of running the show. This is not very easy in a building where only 6 owners participate in the meetings.
On the other hand, I think my neighbours may have finally decided that I have outlived my utility.

kerouac - congratulations! Now you are free to go on vacation whenever you want - but I'll bet the board comes back to you for your expertise when times get rough.

I don't need to do a Day of the Dead report this year!

But, Bixa, your day of the dead threads have been outstanding. How will you feel if threads produced by your company aren't up to your high standards?

It is so cold today (for Paris) that it pleased me to see the municipal employees out on the street distributing goody bags to the homeless. I didn't see the exact contents, but there are always a few toiletries, some chocolates, Christmas biscuits and a few tinned goods. The working and/or unemployed poor already received their special year end allocations at the end of November, so I hope they won't begrudge what the people sleeping out on the streets are getting. The poor here receive 152 euros for Christmas if they are alone and 229 euros if they are a couple, as well as 60 euros for each child. It helps quite a few people buy gifts or eat better during the holiday season.

That is very generous of the city.
Here us old age perishers get £300 in November or early Dec to help the heating bills. And an historical £10 Christmas bonus.

re: #593 ~ That is lovely and so civilized. The way things are going, I don't think I'll ever be able to claim that I was born in a true first-world country. "perishers" , Mossie!

A plant cutting that I received a few years ago from a fellow Anyporter has flourished beyond belief and I have given away 2 cuttings to friends who also report theirs thriving and blooming prolifically.
Mine is in bloom for the 4th time this year!!!!

as for smaller or bigger things that mean a lot - i liked seeing my daughter and my niece playign well together when we all celebrated new year's at my mom's, and to see that agnes is starting to enjoy drawing (well, coloring-in) and starts holding the pencil correctly, as i was a bit worried about that, and putting my hand on my sister-in-law's tummy to feel my little nephew moving, and that my mom drives me home after i visit her, so i don't have to carry all my stuff in the train and so we get to chat a bit longer during the car ride, and just seeing my brother happy, and also us taking up our normal squabbling and teasing ...

Last night when I made nopal salad for my supper, I realized I had no limes. Lime juice is crucial for that dish, so in desperation I ran to the teeny store near me. The only produce sold there is tomatoes, but the lady who owns the store gave me two big beautiful limes and refused any payment. So kind! This did not happen to me, but it was such a fun thing that meant a lot, I'm passing it on: www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/tens-thousands-kinder-surprise-eggs-washed-german-beach-180961713

the woman who is supposed to sometimes help with the kids in our climbing group (like, when the grown ups have a work shop or similar) did watch the kids while we had a meeting today, and i was a bit worried how agnes would deal with that, she has been kind of attached to me lately and she is not that fond of the other kids in the group playing very loud and rough, i think it kind of scares her - but that woman seems to be very good at making a connection, she said agnes was a bit shy at first but relaxed quite quickly, and after we came back i saw her even participate in some of the rougher games with the woman and two other girls ...

Yeah, I love those phone calls that have me hyperventilating with dread and anger before I've even dialed.
My little thing that meant a lot yesterday was that I got wolf-whistled ............. with a violin!

I feel like I'm calling Al-Qaeda when I call them. If you only heard the accent when the server gives the English language version! They used to use people who could speak English better (I must admit that I was the English server voice in French and English for the local site in France for at least 5 years.).

However, now I am feeling much better after having set up my next two trips (only one concerning an airplane) in March. I am still thinking that I need some sort of trip by the end of February, not far but --- somewhere.
