Actually, this was a little thing that meant "a little" but I was pleased today at the Chinese supermarket, which stopped giving out free bags 4 years ago, when one of the cashiers recognized me and pulled out a cotton carrier bag (branded Tsingtao - the Chinese beer) as a gift. These were clearly in short supply because she made furtive looks all around before handing it to me. So I used it and put my personal plastic bags away.

Ah, I managed to sort the photos on this computer up to August 2012. Only a year and a half to go... You have, of course, backed up your files to an external storage device?

That is going to be the next step. I don't want to do my next backup until they are sorted.

Today, a very lovely person, a client whom I admire for her intelligence, generosity, and straightforward thinking, drove all the way across town to bring me a gift. It was a very large, fresh pound cake she had baked, and I suppose it was originally meant for a luncheon I was unable to attend back at my workplace. She had some really kind things to say and we had a nice, though brief, visit.
While I like cake, I don't need it, and couldn't taste it anyway because I still have a sinus infection that won't go away. My family members also don't eat cake, so there I was trying to figure out how to do justice by this nice person. I couldn't just ditch this delicious looking cake.
I took the cake with me back to my office where the event I had missed was just ending. There I learned that one of the staff members had just lost her mother and, though she was at work today, she and her family members were in the process of planning a memorial and reception. I now knew what to do with the cake. After explaining the story - the staff member also knows the client fairly well - I happily handed it over to be served at the funeral reception.

How lovely, Htmb. Through the sequence of things, one little cake did a great deal in terms of friendship and kindness.
Yesterday, a very hot day, I went to my favorite plastics store & bought three 100-liter bins with lids along with some other nifty items. I needed to take them to another store so I could pick up a heavy item I'd bought there & then get a cab home. The plastic items fit neatly into each other, but were quite heavy. One of the boys running the shop carried the stuff a block & a half to the other store for me, then absolutely refused to take a repeatedly offered tip.

Kind of, yeah -- it was really sweet. Actually, the coat rack I'd bought at the other store really made my day (I am a crass person), particularly after I managed to put it together despite the strange Chinese directions & mysterious extra bits of hardware.

agnes had her first encounter with rain puddles yesterday. she walked into one as if it was normal ground, then stopped, looked down, stomped, paused, stomped again, and then went stomp-stomp-stomp.

Rikita, that must have been a totally adorable moment. If she has little rubber boots, she'll be wanting to wear them all the time now.

yeah, she has rubber boots. was funny also to see her when we first put them on her - indoors, to try them out. it feels quite different to walk in them, so the first steps in rubber boots were a bit like her first steps altogether ...

That's so sweet Rikita and a lovely image. There's a little boy in my neighborhood who is entranced by the large rain puddle that forms in front of his house. I see him sitting by the side of it and it is so endearing a sight. I'm tempted to make him a small bamboo fishing pole.

Thank you ladies. I was going through box after box of pictures as I am trying to fill some frames I recently bought with landscape photos for our renovated recreation room and bathroom. Some were unsettling but newer ones show an improvement that we thought might never happen, so yes, it means a lot.

Good to hear that, Mich. Does the fact that you also realize it mean even greater improvement? I mean, at first, did you have trouble reading people's expressions?

Thank you bjd. I can recognize facial expressions but when combined with language it is confusion every day. My family will wink at me when someone is saying something that is supposed to be comical because expressions do not match words.

I was reading this BBC article about "fear of laughter", and those of us without such problems can only feel total solidarity with people trying to overcome such things, which we will never fully understand.

I have never heard of this condition but do relate to some of their issues and frustrations. I do laugh, more often when with children or animals. I have people to love and people who love me, while I may not understand their use of words each day I am fortunate to have their understanding, guidance and support.
