Spoke to my son yesterday. He was somewhere near Amarillo, Texas, en route from Nevada to New Orleans, where he has to tend to some business. Of course I'm happy for him that he'll be able to take in the second weekend of jazz fest, but a little jealous too. Let's face it, the mega names of my generation may not keep performing that much longer, but they'll be on stage next weekend ~~ Aretha Franklin, Van Morrison, Simon AND Garfunkel, the Neville Brothers, & more ..... *sigh* nativeorleanian.com/images-fro-jazz-fest-2010/ ---> This is sour grapes, but my consolation for not being there is that I don't quite get the point of seeing musicians "live" ............ on a screen.

The Simon and Garfunkel performance was indeed wonderful, but, really, only from the standpoint of it actually being them together and the huge crowd's warm reception of. I'm afraid that Art Garfunkel's voice is gone for the most part. They did all the standards but,the real highlight of the show was Paul Simon and his wonderful (as always) band of musicians performance without Art... This upcoming weekend is Van Morrison,Aretha,Neville's,Pearl Jam,B.B. King and Jeff Beck and the many, many hundreds of lesser known great acts. The festival brings in a huge amount of revenue for the city. The people who come here versus the people who come for Mardi Gras, have big bucks to spend, and they spend it all over the city. The restaurants and music clubs are packed (and the traffic sucks...)
Hope I run into Son of Bixa

I am not envious.I am not envious.I am not envious.I am not envious.no no no I am far too fine a person to feel envy. I am not envious.I am not envious.I am not envious.I am not envious.I am not envious.I am not envious.I am not envious.I'm not.
Really, I am glad this is such a money-maker for the city, but can't help but bemoan the good ole days when the festival featured mostly Louisiana musicians and wasn't so huge. (it was cheap, too!)

Two of todays main acts have been canceled due to stormy weather. Aretha being one of them, others are saying they will still go on. I guess Aretha doesn't fancy our lightning onstage, can't blame her. Tomorrow is looking very iffy as well...

Was a great success despite the inclement weather which people braved despite (I did not...). Here is a photo of an old photo that was on display out at the Fairgrounds, great shot of Duke Ellington and Mahalia Jackson,1970.(I feel old referring to 1970 as "old" ).

Yes, I was reading on the www.nola.com site that there were "thin crowds" on the last day due to the rain. But at least it wasn't cold!
