I was introduced to her beautiful voice and delivery by a singer. This is a quiet way to open the Music section, but we can do rowdy later.
There is really no other singer who imbues this song with such yearning as she does.
Edited on January 11, 2021:
The video originally posted here has disappeared. I remembered what piece it was, though, as the word "yearning" in the OP let me know that it is the classic that Eva Cassidy made completely her own. In a nice bit of luck, I found a version recorded on the same night, in the same place as that featured in the wonderful documentary Lugg links below in reply #8.
Listening to it now, I am reminded of what the gentleman who gave me the tape that introduced me to Eva Cassidy told me. He said that when this song was released in the UK, people were pulling off the motorways because they were crying too hard to drive.

I remember when I discovered Eva Cassidy. We were on our honeymoon and were in Florence for the day. We were in a nic-nac shop nosing through a load of junk and there was a sing playing, it was sung so beautifully that I instantly fell in love with the singer. A second song came on sung by the same person and I was hooked, so in made up Italian with lots of arm waving I managed to ask the shop owner what album was playing and he showed me Eva Cassidy's "Imagine" album and then he pointed us in the direction of the nearest music shop. We played it in the car for the rest of the holiday and its always linked in my mind with those wonderful 2 weeks

In my opinion, Ms Cassidy doesn't quite have the full tonal range of, one, Ms Poly Styrene.
Is it just me?

There is a new You Tube video recording of her making her album live at a gig;
25 years ago, a little known singer, Eva Cassidy, and her producer scraped together enough money to record a gig and self-produce an album. This is the story of one night – 3rd January 1996 - at a jazz club in Georgetown, Washington D.C., a set of recordings that almost never happened, and the extraordinary success that followed told by her band members who played with her that night. No one could have imagined that the audio and video recordings from that night would prove to be the foundation of her unparalleled posthumous worldwide success.

Thank you so much for posting this Lugg! I so enjoyed listening to it and most of all how much one comes away with a sense of how humble and unpretentious a performer she was.
(You really had to have done some digging to find this thread!!! It is likely one of the very first threads posted in our almost 12 year history.!)

I found myself reading up more on her life and tragically early death of which I was not aware of (age 33, cause of death, melanoma) in such detail. Being so accustomed to hearing about premature deaths as a result of drug abuse and the like, this made me that much more sad as Ms. Cassidy is not in that category of self destruction. The video really shines a light on what a beautiful person she was in general and her modest unassuming disposition.

You really found a treasure, Lugg! It's not only interesting to see & hear "early" Eva Cassidy, but to get some insight on the sheer hard work of performing musicians and some of the hurdles they have to cross. (sad to talk about the early work of someone who died so young)
Casimira's comment above reminded me that way back when this thread began in 2009 I came across a large number of fan clubs for Eva Cassidy online. In looking for them just now, I found the video below. It's not as intimate as the video in reply #8, but does give another layer of attention to a wonderful talent. (for me, it shows up after the end of Lugg's video as well)

Thanks Bixa for that video and reposting of the OP her cover of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". What a pure rendition.
