Since new members have arrived since this thread was created, perhaps there are some superstitions to add.

It was necessary to pee on the tailwheel for luck, before going flying. Of course a pre flight pee is very necessary anyway, if you are going to be up for a while without a chance to go.

I love that. It is sort of like baptising a ship with a bottle of champagne.

I would comment on superstitions, but I just just spilled sticky fruit juice when cleaning up and I'm anxious to go wash my hands. ;D

From here: - When someone from the household is leaving the house (for ex to go to work), when he has crossed the door, you must talk to him as he/she leaves the house if you're beyond the door.
- From my trip to Sri Lanka, your back must not face a Buddha statue.
- If someone is talking about some future aspiration or plan, it will not come true if someone sneezes.
- The house you live in/own very much impacts your life.

I know that you are not supposed to turn your back on the Buddha, but isn't that for reasons of respect rather than superstition?

Yeah, probably. But respect is usually related to superstitions, isn't it- for example I've not seen anything pertaining to this customs- for eg in Thailand.

Maybe there is a belief that Srilankan Buddhas might stab you in the back.

Every time you extinguish a candle with your (wet) fingers, a seaman dies. Black cat crossing street -> bad luck Don’t give anything with blades as a gift to a wedding or the marriage will fail. Refilling a glass that isn’t fully empty -> bad luck (said to be a Romanian superstition) A more contemporary one: Not looking each other in the eyes when chinking glasses -> seven years of bad sex (spoilers due to adult content, ansh and other minors: please don’t click) Since this was a topic earlier in this thread: I’m the youngest among my siblings and though dirty hands occasionally annoy me, it’s nothing I give much thought – does this proove anything? ;D
