Today is the 450 year anniversary of the founding of Pensacola,Florida. I did not realize this until today,I had always assumed it was St Augustine,Florida, which is the oldest American City as opposed to settlement. Four years after it was founded it was wiped out by a hurricane. This pattern has continued over the years. In my small lifetime, I can't remember all the Tropical Storms and hurricanes that have decimated this small city. At 450 years,it really does show what babes in the woods the USA really is ,especially in light of the recent threads posted in the European section. These are pictures of Pensacola Beach, there is a small city just on the other side of a huge bridge. It is home to a large Navy Base.

Wouldn't that make it the oldest European settlement? I think the Americans were already here.
