Why is toothpaste nearly always minty? I'm sure Kerouac would enjoy a durian flavoured toothpaste. I read that in the USA you can buy whiskey flavoured toothpaste. "Of ourse I haven't had a drink, honey. I've just been cleaning my teeth."

In Bangkok, I bought some Austrian toothpaste called 'Salz' -- and it is indeed just the taste of salt. Absolutely terrible, but it makes you feel as though you are doing the right thing.

I am more worried about toothpastes that list sugar as an ingredient. Particularly children's toothpaste!!! The toothpaste I currently use is flavoured with fennel.

I have an Arm & Hammer toothpaste made from baking soda that is salty tasting. I like it, because if you have to leave the house right after eating, it seems a shame to deaden good food flavors with something that tastes like chewing gum.

I just replied to this post and my message has disappeared in the ether!!
I have tried a (different brand) of bicarbonate of soda tooth paste and it was allright. had been told the taste was horrible. I understand some people use plain bicarbonate of soda to brush their teeth.
Baz, I believe that mint is used to make one feel one has a fresher breath after brushing teeth.

I prefer minty flavours to other flavours.

I'd like to see bacon flavoured toothpaste.
