One restless week, just before going to Italy for a month, I took a Last Minute Club week in Venezuela, for 800CDN, air and hotel. My hotel was 5-star, on the ocean, about an hour's drive from Caracas. Beautiful. Each night, I opened the balcony doors and fell asleep listening to the waves. I had the first massage of my life here, for only 10CDN., given by an old Swiss woman. Throughout the week, I took many small day trips. The one I most remember is my weekend near Angel Falls. This is the highest waterfall in the world. In the indiginous Pemon language, Angel Falls is called Kerepakupai, meaning...'waterfall of the deepest place'. a short video, I had flown to Canaima and then on to an obscure 'resort' to stay. This NY Times article travel.nytimes.com/travel/guides/central-and-south-america/venezuela/canaima-and-angel-falls/hotel-detail.html?vid=1154654599710 is about another more popular place, but mine was much more primitive and I doubt that it has a website. I loved it. One day I rented an airplane and we flew close to the falls. Then, and now, I am speechless. On another day, we took ourselves by canoe up a remote river and then paused to cool ourselves. We swam under a small waterfall. Glorious. That night we had dinner in the communal thatched roof pavillion, the night air was fresh and salty, we ate the fresh catch of the day, we danced.

That is one of the places on my 'see before I die' list.
