You'll do fine with it, spindrift.
I keep all my 'interesting' emails in a spare email account that I have. Just for that purpose.

I can't understand how it's possible to lose emails since it's possible to access ones email account from any computer that's connected to the internet.
We've all used internet cafes or someone elses computer when we're traveling, and there was our email waiting for us as soon as we'd logged into our email providers.
I think (may be wrong), that the only way email can be lost is if you are using an email address issued to you by your paid email provider, and then change providers. This is why I think it's good to have ones email address be from a reliable free source such as yahoo, gmail, etc.
I don't know how this would be presented in the various email formats, but if I click on "Options" on my Yahoo mail page, then select "Mail Options", there is something on the menu called "POP & Forwarding". This allows one to "download Yahoo Mail in an email client, such as Outlook, & forward Yahoo! Mail to a different address".
Have you checked to see if your email has similar options?

I have a big problem, Bixa. My former laptop is now U.S. with its battery connection area burnt out. I can't get it going. Perhaps I can have it repaired. Therefore I cannot access my emails on Outlook Express.
The other problem is that my new laptop with Windows 7 will not recognize Outlook Express.
I can access emails as they arrive via my ISP but I cannot access any of the old emails - the ones I had accumulated and filed.
I still haven't paid for a tecchie to come and by-pass the usual routes of importing emails...because I'm told I must get vital information from my ISP and I haven't started down the road of obtaining it. It seems very complicated.
It's driving me mad.

I'm ignorant of Outlook but is it right that you can only access your mail box from your computer and nobody elses?

Yes, Mark, you are right that you can only access your mail from your own computer and nobody elses. I really knew my way around OE and now I'm up the swanee. I shall now read the link that Bixa has kindly provided. I see that a 2010 version of Adobe Photoshop number 8 (recognized by Windows 7) will cost me £130.

Bixa - I just glanced at your link and yes, I have downloaded and fiddled around with Windows Live Mail and I couldn't get to the 'Import email files and addrsses' bit. I remember I spent hours messing around and getting nowhere except that I ended up being forced to register a WindowsLive MSN with a hotmail address. I don't' want this at all but was forced into it. Then there was no Import button as far as I could figure. I am fed up with it and will have to pay someone to do it for me. But before I do this I have been told (at the store where I bought it) that I must find out confidential information about my email account that the ISP hold and they don't make it public...I have to beg for it somehow.

I have instructed my laptop to accept my old Microsoft Digital Image programme (up to a point) by right clicking on the stored programme on my hard-drive and telling it to 'Run in Compatibility Mode...and then I selected 'Windows XPSP2'.... It obeyed me and I was then able to import my 8,000 photos that I had downloaded earlier from an external hard-drive. BUT...the programme is not functioning as it should and the pics are all over the place. I am truly fed up with it. I might have to pay £130 for the new Adobe PhotoShop 8 programme, uninstall and reinstall. I'll see how much it costs on Amazon. As for the emails....I'll just have to pay a technician to come round. Also, another problem, with all this faffing around trying to get Win7 to recognize my old Microsoft programme, my computer , when booting up, tells me that I have problems on my disks with a dodgy programme and that I should use System Restore. Looks like I have to pay out more money to sort this out.

Spindrift, System Restore is one of the simplest, most straightforward things you can do on the computer.

Bixa - am I wrong in thinking that System Restore will destory all of my downloaded pics?
Anyway, yesterday I emailed my ISP for my broadband Access Number... prior to the tecchie's visit and...
I'm happy to say that (without my intervention) my laptop has now re-instated my 'old' picture programme (although they're still muddled) and has even 'recognized' my photo printer...so now I don't have to worry about buying a new printer.

To get to System Restore:
Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
It won't let me copy what it says, but if you open it you can read it and be reassured. It will NOT destroy your downloaded pictures, and is reversible besides.

System restore does not touch any files, including image files. Yes, it is scary the first time you use it.

The only downside I've noticed with SR is that sometimes if you've downloaded a newer version of software, the shortcuts won't work as they point to the wrong version in the registry. Not a big deal though just redownload and reinstall (or just reinstall if you have saved the setup file) and you're back in business.

Thank you. I haven't tackled SR yet....
