Gad ~~ it's been at least a year since I looked at this thread. Great shots, Kerouac. I love the lion & that creepy figure at #60

So many of these figures show the agony of being encased in concrete.

Bacchus. I assume, from the grapes, on a façade in Auteuil: I love this rather soppy-looking lion on the Porte St Denis: From the backside of the Opéra Garnier - so a Valkyrie, I'm guessing:

Lions are good! I love the very alive eyes in #68 and Patrick's "soppy looking" one. The valkyrie is wonderful -- I really like her olive branches.

Are full bodied caryatids allowed in this thread or do I make a new one?

I think my Cs and Ts would feel at home with the others. We don't want 2 separate tribes forming...if they fight all their buildings will fall down!
(mmm...idea for kids' story)

Lots of great heads here! I tried to find out the architectural term for sculpted heads, but no can do. All I found was "zoophorous" - frieze decorated with animal or human figures. Some of these fit that description, but not all. I only learned the official name recently or I probably would have used it as the title for this thread to appear intelligent: mascarons

Bixa, the recent photos you've posted are incredible. They look quite old, also. Do you have any background information to share? The second photo down has quite an interesting face.

Thank you, Htmb, & a further thanks for removing my cloak of invisibility. One reason the heads look so old is because they're heavily soiled with grime and automotive emissions. That building, appropriately, is on Porfirio Díaz street. I say that because Díaz's presidency/dictatorship fostered a veneration for all things European, including architecture. I suspect the building is from the late 1800s or early 1900s. Puebla has some lovely examples of buildings from this era. Here is the whole building, showing yet another head up on the left-hand corner: If you want to scrutinize it closely, the large original is here
