While looking for the floaty yellow dress, I found this site with some awful and some not so bad looks. www.thecut.com/article/oscars-red-carpet-fashion.htmlI still don't like those slit skirts, and many of the strapless tops look as though they are about to slip off, but at least you see that not everyone wears really formal things.

I really loathe those big poofs sitting on one shoulder. Lose the poof and the dress might be tolerable.
And I can’t decide which is worse, Maya Rudolf’s dress or her hair. That slicked-back wet look does nothing for her face and makes the dress seem even more overwhelming.

I'm not sure what the definition of "camp" is but I don't think this is it. Some rather outrageous looks, but done by fashion designers. The "bad taste and erotic value" supplied by the Wiki definition is certainly present, but doesn't seem to have much to do with anything. Most of these people here are permanently dressed with bad taste: the Kardashians, J-Lopez, etc.
I would have preferred to see a bunch of drag queens who made up their own costumes.

I saw Lady Gaga's four level strip tease on the evening news.
I see it's already on YouTube.

Of these photos, I like Priyanka Chopra Jonas’s pink gown best. Though I’m not a fan of pink, with her olive skin and raven locks it looks good.

Oh joy ~ I'd forgotten the Golden Globes were tonight!
I'm seeing several duds -- Jennifer Anniston's confused and Morticia dress; that equally confused green and black thing Charlize Theron wore, for instance. Gwen Paltrow, a person who always has a stupid look on her face, looks like a raving maniac in that Carmen Miranda beast of a dress that appears to be made of Triscuits or something. Kathy Bates seems to be sporting her lifelong ambition to be a hit man. Michelle Williams at least has the grace to look intensely uncomfortable in her bed sheets. I actually think that Lucy Boynton pulled off her Edwardian foil frock, just because she's young enough to do so. Reese Witherspoon looked nice. Rose Leslie would have looked wonderful in that somewhat medieval-feeling green dress if the skirt weren't that ridiculous sheer-with-shorts goofiness. Sienna Miller shows how bad nice fabric can be made to look. Nicole Kidman needs to gain weight and stop ironing her hair. I'm sure that Saoirse Ronan has a reason for thinking poorly fitted chain mail was the right fashion choice. Laura Dern looks as though she was sleeping one off and had to throw on something to answer the door. Shailene Woodley manages to look borderline trashy. Kaitlyn Dever is wearing Miz Ellen's summer room portieres. Taylor Swift is overwhelmed by that pattern on her dress. Jennifer Lopez is gift wrapped. Agree with Kimby about Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who really wears clothes extremely well. Dakota Fanning is a scary fairy. Ana de Armas looks absolutely fabulous, really gorgeous. Even though Kirsten Dunst certainly has the figure to wear that dress, no one should wear that dress. I'm tired from commenting, although there is more silliness after Kirsten. The last picture has poor Karen Pittman obviously wondering how the hell she wound up in a chicken suit.

I thought -- oh goody, I get to post the Golden Globes dresses on Anyport but I see you beat me to it, as did Bixa with her spot-on comments. Don't worry, I don't know who most of these people are either but I think I say that every year.
I agree about the awful Gwyneth Paltrow dress. And Jennifer Lopez does nothing to get rid of my "worst dressed" award that I gave her years ago. She looks like she was left under the Christmas tree because there was too much packaging. The only word that comes to mind seeing Kerry Washington is WTF? I thought those thigh-high slits had gone out of fashion a few years ago?
No reason for more comments since Bixa has said it all. Just adding that most of them don't stand properly and look hunched over. And why do they bother showing the men's outfits? There is only so much that can be said for a tuxedo.

Well it seems hat dresses made out of 70s curtains and carpets and huge puffy sleeves are in . Will stick to my wellies and jeans. Cant add much to what has already been said except....What on earth was Olivia Coleman thinking of, Helen Mirren looked nice and surprisingly, after a few moments weighing up whether I hated it, I really liked the dress worn by Zoe Kravitz, although I have no idea who she is.

Just adding that most of them don't stand properly and look hunched over. And why do they bother showing the men's outfits? There is only so much that can be said for a tuxedo. Agree with you about posture, but I found this video illuminating and it possibly explain some of the slumping. Since all of these people are used to being in the public eye, it's interesting to see how stressed and beset they look. Well, Ellen and Nicole Kidman seem less affected, but maybe the camera just caught them before they were overwhelmed. And yeah -- the men's clothes are just plain boring. www.washingtonpost.com/video/entertainment/stars-walk-the-golden-globes-red-carpet/2020/01/06/fa016807-0f61-46a3-bd65-b942dd6a5ddb_video.htmlWhat on earth was Olivia Coleman thinking of, Helen Mirren looked nice and surprisingly, after a few moments weighing up whether I hated it, I really liked the dress worn by Zoe Kravitz, although I have no idea who she is. Olivia Colman has enormous presence and seems like such a real person. However, she more often than not chooses things that make her look awful. I saw a clip of Helen Mirren flipping that two-tone skirt and realized what a great choice it was. I had exactly the same reaction as you to Zoe Kravitz's dress. (She was in Big Little Lies, if you saw that.) I wish she weren't so much of the ilk of recent popular beauties who think their perpetual stone-faced expressions work for them.

Ana de Armas wore the best dress imo. I would have liked Rose Lesley's dress if the skirt hadn't been transparent...looked daft imo. What I can't get over is how scrawny so many of the slightly older ladies look. Only a few of the 'celebrities' seem to be wearing colours and styles that suit them. I don't suppose that they have much choice...either that or their PR people are lying to them...

I like the yellow frock that Zoey wotsit is wearing That just reflects your love of science fiction, Cheery. As far as that goes, when I saw Kate Blanchett on a video clip, I decided I liked that dress, on her anyway. I agree with every word you said in #316.

Actually that brings up what I was wondering -- do they actually get any input into what they wear or are they used as publicity for designers? Because some of those clothes are not only awful (Gwyneth Paltrow, I mean you) but don't suit the wearer.
I just scrawled through the lot looking for the yellow dress and didn't see it, nor did I see Cate Blanchett. What did strike me was someone called Lorena something in a black and white houndstooth outfit which was horrible. If you are going to be dressy in a long dress, at least make it light.

I just flipped through the pictures rapidly and did not see anything that impressed me in a positive way. It seems to me that Hollywood pays quite a bit of lip service to climate change and saving resources, but the ridiculous expense of this outlandish clothing says the opposite. I think they should set a spending limit of $100 for what they wear next year.

Hollywood pays quite a bit of lip service to climate change and saving resources, but the ridiculous expense of this outlandish clothing says the opposite. Well, yeah -- more than a touch of hypocrisy in Hollywod, or at least trendy but empty lip service to popular causes. A couple of years ago when the clothing was supposed to reflect "me too" outrage, many of the clothes outraged me with their rather vulgar "sexiness" including clothes worn by girls too young to be presenting themselves as sexy. Kimby, too right about Ana de Armas -- her entire look was drop-dead elegant gorgeousness. It was definitely the winner of the evening in my book.

I wore black sweaters, tops and pretty much everything else when I could do so at that age, but it wasn't to be vulgar sexy; it was to be boho and artistic. Often turtlenecks. Obviously it is different in a warmer climate, but I've always hated pastels, except when required in the hot sun.

There is no real place for pastels. Why take perfectly good colors and make them all wimpy?

I take your point bixa, but a sky blue dress—what the Italians would call celeste—can work like a charm.
