Zooey Deschanel -- very, very nice: beautifully chosen, accesorized, and great hair & makeup. Classy, elegant, & glamorous.

Elizabeth Moss looked as though she escaped from a Flash Gorden serial of the '30s.

THIS is the kind of thing you're afraid of waking up & seeing floating at the foot of your bed.

I really don't GET the lopsided hem look. Ankles and feet, even clad in $500 shoes, are just not that nice to look at. These dresses with the front hems raised so far off the floor just look wrong to me. I'd like Zoey's - and Michelle Dockery's - gowns much better with an even hem.

People magazine says that from 1999 to present, no one has ever taken home an Academy Award wearing green, silver or orange. Guess actresses today aren't very superstitious, or maybe just not paying attention.

I don't agree with the commentary either. I liked the first two, but none of the others, especially not the last one. And the top of Uma Thurman's dress doesn't fit properly.

The Vivienne Westwood dress certainly fits Lily Allen's personality, so it was probably an appropriate choice for her -- but not for any other living human being.

The commentary in the Guardian article is , but I'm grateful for the link, Lugg. Gotta see those pictures! Quotes ~~ Lugg: I did love Lupita Nyongo's dress - she really is very beautiful.>> Agree! << She also is wearing the dress, not vice-versa, despite the fact that she seems to be very tiny. I think a very modern choker would have been a nice touch, maybe something with a discreet square emerald right in the hollow of her throat. Also, one less cuff & maybe a knockout ring, but no argument that she looks fabulous. Bjd: the top of Uma Thurman's dress doesn't fit properly.Shan't go into my rant about that again, but yes, you are so right. Kerouac: The Vivienne Westwood dress certainly fits Lily Allen's personality, so it was probably an appropriate choice for her -- but not for any other living human being.Don't agree, although do agree that it needs the right personality + hair & skin tone. I like to think I could have pulled that off in my youth, dippy bridesmaid's butt bow & all. Lily certainly looks wonderful in it. Not a fan of the severe tops to the formal dresses, Cate Blanchett's being a good example of why. It's an ugly, uninspired dress & her hair is hideous. Angelina Jolie looks as though she arrived from a nice vacation rather than from her coffin for a change. I can only assume the couple have contracted for a line of dolls a la Raggedy Ann & Andy & are modeling the first set of clothes. Emma Thompson annoys me sometimes. Besides being a super actress, she is quite pretty & a bona fide star. Work those angles, Emma! Even Helen Mirren finally had to age. *sigh* She looks glamorous despite the fussy neckline, but really needs to gain a little weight. Maggie Gyllenhaal just plain looks stupid.

Here is a pretty ghastly selection from the French Academy Awards Friday night: photo.voici.fr/look-le-pire-et-le-meilleur-des-cesar-2014-5214Most of the young actresses do not appear to have had time to go to the hairdresser. (Just for info, the giant dress worn by Deborah François is Catherine Deneuve's costume from the classic "Donkey Skin.")

It must be my screen -- they all look overweight, except for Rossy de Palma (whoever she is?) - What on earth did she do to her face? Looks like it was caught in a vise. Horrible.

Rossy de Palma was a major star in the early Almodovar movies due to her unique physique. In recent years, she seems to have worked more in French movies.

Interesting to see that Roman Polanski is still going. I did appear, very briefly, in one of his films in 1971.

Really, bjd? They all look overweight? Scarlett Johansson? Frédérique Bel? I think it might be your screen, or you are a very thin lady indeed.
I think Rossy de Palma is a fabulous looking woman. I first saw her in an Almodovar and I thought she looked like a beautiful exotic parrot. Yes, she has a huge nose, and thank god she never tried to make a career in the US.
Mossie, were you in the Scottish play, er, film?

No, not the Scottish one, Polanski made this film also in 1971.
I sat in the crowd opposite the Tyrell pit where Polanski was filming and he shot me and my friend as faces in the crowd. My son happened to see the film on TV and took a screenshot, I have a print somewhere.

It is indeed my screen -- I am not at home and the screen here is really wide and everything looks stretched out. I will therefore refrain from commenting on the appearance of any more celebrities.
No, I'm not a very thin lady -- just ordinary.

The Grammy link won't open for me but in any case, from the little I saw elsewhere, it's the usual mix of no taste, no class and no style.
