Best wishes to our antipodal members for ANZAC Day, not forgetting that we are always somebody else's antipodal.

A century ago thousands of Australian New Zealand Army Corps (Anzacs) were being used as cannon fodder in the war zones of France. We lost a higher percentage of our male population than any other country. Many French and Belgian towns honour Anzac Day as well.

One year ago today, Hillary Clinton wrapped up the Democratic presidential nomination on the last Super Tuesday of the primaries. Since then, the United States have gone to covfefe.

Today is Flag Day here in the US which I never quite grasped and am too lazy to look up. It is also one year ago that my husband was hospitalized for the whole f'n summer which is now officially referred to as "the summer from hell". He is now "fit as a fiddle" save an occasional flareup of some neuropathy in his hands. Amen...

I thought your marvellous, all singing, all dancing, president used a rug, as we unkindly call it.

I thought your marvellous, all singing, all dancing, president used a rug, as we unkindly call it. If this remark is addressed at me, which it seemingly appears to, then that is the very stuff I would call "unkindly". I have had enough insults darted at me as a US citizen all day on this "open minded, diverse, free thinking" forum. Just another day in the USA I guess... How ironic that the gunman who openly fired his gun at a group of Republicans was a Bernie Saunders supporter who was my candidate of choice for the office of President of my country. What do you call that?

Sorry Casimira, I was referring, obliquely perhaps, to Kerouac's grey hair jibe.

I thought your marvellous, all singing, all dancing, president used a rug, as we unkindly call it. He claims it's not a hairpiece, and has let people tug on it to prove it. But it's the ugliest yellow Rogaine-enhanced combover I've ever seen.

Happy Boreal Summer Solstice and Austral Winter Solstice to Anyporters!
Here it is also National Indigenous Peoples' Day. There is a ceremony going on, but I'm not there as I'm translating something for the organizers.

We just made our final mortgage payment on our home and received a check for $5,000 USD that was leftover in our escrow account. Quite the banner day for us which we plan to celebrate with going out to dinner to our favorite steak house.

Yes, finishing a final mortgage payment is one of the best things ever, even without a refund.

Ours is paid off next month but our cat just was run over by a firetruck (the guys on the truck were wonderful about it) and it's hard to feel elated about anything right now.

That's so insensitive a remark Kerouac. You should know better.
While I can appreciate "gallows humor" in most instances, this goes beyond the pale.

Casimira, as you know, I will never be an automatic sob sister and wring my tear sodden handkerchief about people or animals that I have never seen. I do understand that it is a sad moment for fumobici, and we all have our individual sad moments about various things. I am glad that he received condolences, but if we had 50 active members, do you think that each and every one of them should pile more and more condolences on to make things better?
Condolences from strangers do not makes things better at all. You should know that.

Sorry to read about what happened to your cat Fumobici. The feelings are quite consuming to lose a pet (beloved member of the family). And to the person who hit the cat, I know I would feel just horrible.
