I could swear those leaves are from an aspidistra, though the flowers are different. Hosta flowers are nothing like those in your pic.

I agree, even the tiny bit of leaves that are showing in the pic, look like aspidistra to me as well.

Often, I look at Casimira’s first two photos in this thread, which are exquisite. I have no problem with foliage not being green…if it grows then it is part of nature. I love Bixa’s first photo in #16. Whatever, I love them all.

I freely admit those flowers don't look like any other hosta I've ever seen. But I have no daffodils, I have no aspidistra (& I can tell the difference between hosta & aspidistra). That plant has hosta bulbs, hosta leaf texture, and hosta habit of growth. It may be fooling the eye because it's so dark green due to all the gray days we've had here, but it's a hosta.

Those are great, cheery. Not boring at all! Can't wait to see more. (Where is your garden?)
But it reminded me that I'd better go and water the plants in my mother's room at the nursing home if she is confined to the clinic more than another 2 days.

Those are fabulous foliage photos Cheery!! I am a big fan of Phormium (AKA New Zealand Flax I believe). I had some many years ago out by my pond,I loved them. I bought them expressly for the foliage and the swordlike shape of the leaves. Splendid ,splendid shots!! Thanks, not at all too much. More! more!! That banana (musa)pic is gorgeous!!

Cheery, your way with combing texture and color is incredibly inspiring. You take gorgeous photos, too -- the epimedium picture reminds me of music! I've only seen green or variegated phormiums and didn't even know the name of the plant. Now I'm eaten alive with desire for that magnificent purple. It's a treat to see castor bean plant valued. It grows as a weed here & no one values it. I had a lovely specimen growing over a pond, giving just the right tropical touch. Several neighbors said, "get rid of that thing -- it's a weed!" All of your pictures are great, but I keep going back to that delicately perfect combo of heuchera & painted fern and the wonderful banana leaf.

Cheery, I love the way you catch the edges of leaves. I love foliage anyway, but looking at your pictures is refining my vision. That rice-paper leaf portrait is an outstanding photo.

Thanks The rice paper plant and most of the bananas are now wrapped packed with straw to protect them over winter. I forgot to wrap one of the bananas and it's a sorry sight after this week's frosts...

What wonderful views, Tod. I practically had to lie down after viewing that staghorn! I have never seen even close to such a magnificent specimen in real life. The air plant is some kind of bromeliad, right? It looks like Spanish moss on steroids.

That last pic is of some tillandsia(s),related to the bromeliad, but, don't have that "cup" like receptacle in the middle like the later do,yes, they are magnificent, what a specimen(s)!!!!!!! Wow,nice pics guys!!!

Cheery - I do have a book on palms somewhere but know the palm as a Victoria palm. I have two very old ones (+- 100yrs) which came with our land, but all the others are decendants of these palms. They form large 'pods' from which millions of tiny yellow flowers hang down - the bees go crazy! Will be more specific with the make and model number next time ;D I admire your knowledge and the Latin names Cheery - a true botanist!
