This Sunday 12/3/17 there will be a SUPERMOON which is when a full moon occurs at the same time the moon is closest to Earth's orbit. The best time for viewing is just after sunset.

It's very unlikely that we will be able to view this here. We are in for foul weather. Last night is was super foggy (which is unusual as the fog is usually in the early a.m. hours) and there was zero visibility.

We left Florida - where the viewing conditions will be excellent - to return to Montana, where it’s cloudy and snowing. The not-quite-full moon did provide a nice glow for our last beach walk till April, however.

They have also told us in France that any chance of seeing the Supermoon will be extremely slim. In Paris it is drizzling...

As luck would have it we had fairly clear skies and the moon was spectacular!! It seemed twice the size of a regular full moon.
(I was out trapping feral cats so I didn't have much opportunity to sit back and enjoy and take it all in. It may explain why there were soooo many cats out prowling).

The GEMINID METEOR shower peaks on December 13th and 14th uncontested by the moonlight which should make for stellar viewing.

This upcoming Thursday, December the 21 is the WINTER SOLSTICE. at 10:28 Central time it will occur.
Of Major Note, this is the first time in 350 years that the Solstice will occur at the exact same time and be in alignment with Saturn as it moves into Capricorn.
A most unusual event that has not occurred since 1664.
(there are beaucoup ominous predictions, nothing specific, but as far as I would let myself read, I am going to be aware.)
Mercury remains in retrograde which doesn't abide well for those believers.

Great stuff unfortunately we've had overcast night skies for weeks here. I'm hoping for a good, cold winter because that's when we get the best viewing opportunities.

The best visibility is in the Western US so you're in luck given clear skies.
It's the first one in 150 years.

One day to the blue moon -- in overcast Paris. Not just blue, red too!!! While out cat trapping last evening I caught a glimpse preview of the moon waxing. Tonight will be a"dress rehearsal" of sorts. I hope it clears up for you K. And, clear skies for everyone!!!

Actually, I was just reading that the only parts of France where the moon will be visible are Tahiti and New Caledonia. In Paris, all of this stuff will happen at 14:29.

After weeks of clear skies, tonight will be cloudy (they predict) However the National Parks people are leaving the Summit of Mt Lofty Park open for people to take a chance. They have trained staff to tell the viewers what is happening and why. Mt Lofty is about 20 minutes drive from the CBD and is not really high at 727 metres. Fabulous panorama over the city, though.

Will I be getting up in the pre-dawn, cloudy, mid-40ºs to barely see the eclipse, if at all? I think it unlikely.

Since I almost always wake between 5 and 6 I should be awake to see it - if the clouds part.

Likewise here too Kimby. Your locale promises a stellar view providing clear skies or even clearish skies. There have been times when the moon is full and there are clouds but they are moving and one can get fleeting views of it. I really love when that happens.
If not, I will look forward to seeing the evening/night time view.

I don't think I'm going to get to see the full glory of this moon. However, I went outside 14 minutes ago and captured the amazing penumbra (is that the right word?) around the moon ~ Taken 11:40 pm cst:

12:10 am, cst ~ just went & looked again. The moon was in the east when I took the picture above. It is now directly overhead and the ring around it is much bigger. I would have to lie on my back to try for a shot now, and even then I don't think the ring would fit into the frame.

I saw the eclipse! Barely. I got up around 5:30 and found the one window in the house that had a view of the setting moon between the trees. The veils of clouds parted enough to watch till the redness of totality. I took a few unsuccessful photos , and then the moon moved behind clouds, a big tree and the ridge behind the house. Not as exciting as the solar eclipse, but still worth getting up early for.

Yaay, Kimby! I don't know what time it was, but the moon woke me up because it was so bright, even through the curtains in the bedroom. I looked out at it, but then went back to bed.
