Surprised we haven't seen a thread about this given the number of naturalists on here...

Oh, you guys!! Both are such wonderful pictures.
Imec, I totally love how you placed the house in your picture, with the amount of sky surrounding it feeling somehow organically correct.
Dahuffy, not only is the subject matter great, but the light in the picture conveys cold.

spinny, I think technically that would be a bird feeder, rather than a house, but it IS lovely.

There were even more but I scared them off, even though I stayed at a respectful distance.
I love the little darlings. Wish I could have hummingbirds outside my window.

Fabulous shot of the little hummers!!!!!! Very cool!! Adult Purple Martin feeding it's young a freshly caught dragonfly. How they cram this size insect down the tiny gullet always amazes me.

These pigeon hotels are extremely popular in a lot of Parisian parks, since they offer an unlimited buffet of contraceptive food inside. The pigeons absolutely love it! (I suppose the great food consoles them for not having any children, just like a lot of people in Las Vegas.)

Thank you, lugg. I took the last photo from a long distance and didn't realize the bird had a hook caught in its mouth until I loaded the photos on my computer. Sad.

The word "magnificent" is what immediately jumped to my mind, too. Marvelous, Tod. What's the story behind your picture?

htmb - The story is, I was panning and shot the photo as I passed a plant in the garden. Looks like heavenly rays were shooting up to my ' Kitey' (his name) but it's just some leaves or branches I think of my Tree Fern.
Thank you and Bixa for such a nice compliment!

Nycgirl -Yes, Kitey is our old friend...or his relatives, who come down every August from North Africa and stay, build nests, have chicks, bring the family to our house as it's the best restaurant in town, then buggar off again in about two-three weeks time.
I am waiting with baited breath for all your wonderful African holiday stories....!!

There's something magical about that photo, tod -- photography accidents can be excellent sometimes.
