I leave tomorrow morning to shut down our project office, the staff are hostile, in some ways they have brought this on themselves, not really doing their jobs. Today, I asked for somethings to be done, and I am now just getting passive agressive shit. I really do not want to do this. Any hugs for me out there? Good news, Zonker will join me there on Friday and we will have a night and a day at the seaside. I have booked a table at Moyo Ushaka Pier (http://www.moyo.co.za/content.asp?subID=58) which I think will be lovely, I don't like to wish my life away, but can it be Friday night please?

You are not the person who took their jobs away. It was a combination of their own actions (or lack of) and corporate decision. If you feel badly for them, remind yourself of all the worthy people looking for jobs, while this crew abused the trust put in them.
This is a case where you'll just have to be dispassionate & get the job done.

For a minute I thought you were giving me a hug, K2, then I saw the ?. It was nice while it lasted.
Thanks Bix, I just had a chat to my boss in UK and I feel a little better.... still not the most pleasant task in the world though.

It may be tough, but that's part of YOUR job.
And if you're going to take any sort of comfort, then take comfort in the fact that, in today's climate, YOU still have a job... !

Actually, I do not think it is part of my job, but in the absence of anyone else, it falls to me.
G, part of why it is difficult for me, is it is hard to have to wave goodbye to people knowing that they have children and families to feed. I only have a job until May and then I am out looking too.

Is the unemployment rate very high in South Africa?

Palesa, I wasn't having a go, just hoping to get it in perspective. However, not knowing ALL of the facts relevant to your situation, it somewhat misfired ...

Sorry Gyro, I am having a shitty day.
Hal, we have very high unemployment statistics and very interesting employment laws that make job hunting very stressful.

The work situation is pretty shitty here too, P. I'm not sure how long my company will keep trading ....
See you under the arches, with a bin liner for a bedroom !

Hang in there palesa - you know I'm always scouting for you!
Do you think post election they will reconsider AA and BBBEE? - people admit it hasn't worked - except for furthering the elite.
Enjoy Moyo and just keep thinking of the weekend - I've only ever been inside the Moyo at Spier but not eaten.

Chin up dear. I've been in this spot before,no fun. It's always been hard for me to not feel guilty but like Bixa said you're not doing the firing. People will continue to be passive aggressive etc. but try not to take it personally. Enjoy your holiday!

Thank you MissA! I have applied for a post at SANAC based at the Dev Bank, it will be a fantastic opportunity .... so start crossing fingers and toes please and send all the good vibes you can muster.
MissA, I don't think the ANC will every reconsider because it wins them votes. Depends how close behind COPE can nip at it's heels maybe?

I heard the funniest thing on the radio from Zuma about how communities must make government accountable for service delivery. I wonder how other than voting for COPE, they can. With my recent plight at the hands of Home Affairs there is no recourse, absolutely no system in place for fixing problems.

Zuma and Malema make me want to vomit, can't believe I used to be a card carrying member of the ANC in the 80's and 90's and I truly believed in the organisation and it's objectives.

Hello all you wonderful people! I am back, survived and I think excelled at my task. Was not pleasant, and to add to it was the extreme heat and humidity, which I am not accustomed to. I was no sooner at the breakfast table and I was glowing from perspiration (the polite way of saying it).
I am exhausted, I think from emotion, fear and heat! Have had a lovely rest this morning and am just vegging in front of mindless TV soapies! Will be ready to face the world head on tomorrow.
ZOnker and I had a lovely time, we swam in the sea and played on the beach like children, ate lovely food (too much) and enjoyed spending time together without chores etc. to get in the way.
Thank you all for your support and hugs!
