I just noticed that Kerouac's green frog is now gracing the space to the left of his posts. It looks deeper, and darker, and greener then ever, too -- very nice indeed!
Should we rate the avatars, in a kind, constructive way, of course?
What about mine? Does that flower make me look fat?

Yours always makes me wonder what sort of plant it is. No doubt something I've never seen up here in the temperate rain forest where anything requiring heat or sunshine is only a rumor.
Mine is of course Picasso. Una donna si facendo un ditalino to put it obscurely. Pablo was obviously a bit of a perv. Not that I disapprove.

On various sites where I use this avatar, I have noticed that one of the advantages is how visible it is -- nobody else ever seems to have a green avatar.

Mine was taken during a trip to the northeast. I was very surprised to see the guy sitting on the bike on top of the van...

What am I doing in Yo, Froggy? Oh, I see...
It's a batsman executing a perfect straight drive. Something I could do a long time ago...
The white dot is the ball, the white bit at the top is a bat.

Hmmm. You'd think the seven people in this thread were the only ones with avatars! Let's hear from more people, including those who've chosen to go naked, as it were.

Until reading this today I hadn't realized I'd been "going naked." Ooopps. Bixa, I guess I have terrible depth perception. I have been thinking your avatar was an underwater picture. I had no idea it involved a flower (or have you changed your avatar more recently?).

Yeah, Htmb, that was written back when I was using a jamaica (Hibiscus sabdariffa) photo as my avatar.
I'm wondering if it's time for a change of avatar.
Something I notice in this thread, but don't know if it applies to all the guys on anyport or not ~~ We women all seem to have our avatars set as near as possible to the 100x100 max size the forum format allows. The men use the avatar space much more conservatively. Well, Mick's cricketer is 100 high, but it's a very narrow picture. Kerouac's froggy is tentatively occupying more space, whereas I think HW's jeep is down to the default 65x65.
And we can't include Htmb in this micro-survey, because she is nekkid.

Now I am "dressed." I love water and I'm a kayaker, so until I can upload an avatar of my own, this one will have to do.

It's you, dahling! Htmb, there is info on capturing from Flickr in Image Bank Basics, but I don't know if it still applies or not. Just went over to Flickr, & here's how to get the url from one of your pictures there: 1. Go to your Flickr account & click on the picture you want. 2. Right-click on it & you will see This photo is All Rights Reserved View all sizes: Medium 500 • Medium 640 • Large3. Click on one of the sizes. It doesn't matter which one, as the picture will open at its real size in another window, with an array of possible sizes displayed above it. 4. When the new window opens with the picture, right-click on it & choose "copy image url". -OR- go ahead & choose one of the sizes, then when it opens, right-click on it & choose "copy image url". "copy image url" is what appears in Chrome. It will be slightly different in FF and in IE. <-- This choice was Thumbnail (100x89). Perfect size for an avatar, right?

Thanks so much, bixa! I appreciate the help very much. I had basically done that on the iPad, but I think I may need to start up my creaky old computer to get it done.

It's great when people ask questions like that, since they're usually something others want to know too.
My avatar is just a regular picture of me that I altered by playing with various editing features.
You like water & kayaking? Florida is definitely the right place for you, although is there any rough water inland there?

Bixa, I've gone to North Georgia and done some white water rafting a few times, but I'm at a point in my life where I much prefer the calmer water of scenic rivers and lakes. Plus, on a large lake I have found that the water can change constantly with the wind and weather. A smooth paddle out, just might be turned into a (usually fun) battle with the wind on the way back. I live about an hour equidistant from the Atlantic and the gulf, but my favorite thing to do is paddle a couple of hours up one of our little rivers and then enjoy the float back down.

I did go down section four of the Chattooga River once in a guided raft. I kept looking for those guys, especially in the areas where the movie was filmed I'm glad you like my new avatar, bixa. It will be awhile before I'm back on that little river as the crowds of tubers have taken over for the summer.
