Yaaaay ~ more La Défense! The statue is a wonderful enhancement to an already magical space and your photographs actually soar up those sleek buildings. Maybe one day I'll get to see it for myself. Thanks for adding to this thread!

A treat, for sure! I'm going to have to read up on La Défense. I've never been.
Maybe this year, but I said that before the last trip, too.

Really enjoyed seeing the new photos K2 - the statues are just fantastic but its your capture of them that excels.

Besides the continuing construction of new high rises at La Défense, there is a new project for the lower end of the site facing Paris. Unfortunately, the vineyard facing Neuilly will be removed, but at least there are no plans to destroy the plants -- half of them will be given to Courbevoie and half to Puteaux, which are the two cities that share the site. No, I don't have the slightest idea where the plants will go. By the end of 2017 there will be a completely new construction facing Paris, with restaurants and various other activities. Here it is: Oxygen

That is perfectly named and truly beautiful. Guess I need to start planning a 2018 trip to Paris!

What happened to that triangular high-rise office building that caused such a stir a few months ago? Was it supposed to be around there?

The Tour Triangle is supposed to be built in Paris at Porte de Versailles. Right now they are still waiting for the building permit. They are expected to break ground at the very end of this year or the beginning of 2017. It all depends on how rabid the opponents are.

Funny that the building I go to about every month is not depicted, but the entrance of the cafetaria can be guessed, and you took a pic of the place my colleagues get their smoke...

Okay, I will add a picture of your building next time. (But of course you can add it yourself.)

The Aillaud buildings (also know as the "cloud towers") are still striking as they reach the ripe old age of 40. At least they are striking from a distance, because when you walk up to them, you can see that they are really not in great shape. I'll need to take another look one of these days because I have not been to that section of Nanterre for about ten years. There are 18 of them in all, but there is a tentative plan to demolish some of them. Nothing has been decided yet.

Nice update, thanks K. The last three times I've been to Paris, I told myself I should go and see La Défense, but never have followed through and gone.

Yay goody! I absolutely love this thread and am always excited to see it updated. And the updates are always so fresh. Going back & looking at earlier posts shows how wonderfully photo-worthy this area was and is.
In the picture immediately above the words "When they built "Défense 2000" in 1971-1974", what is that section with young trees(?) growing out of it -- something complete, or something being built?
I like that line of heads along the greenery and the new position of the National Defense statue is striking.
What's the story on the building that at first glance looks so much like London's gherkin? Do you know which one is the older?
I love all your up-close-and-goggling shots and angles, but also very much appreciate the longer views which give a good idea of the impact of the whole area. Looks like many other people were out enjoying a rather chilly sunshine in every available space. The food trucks seem very popular.

In the picture immediately above the words "When they built "Défense 2000" in 1971-1974", what is that section with young trees(?) growing out of it -- something complete, or something being built? They are currently redeveloping that area, so the vegetation is new. That's why there are fences everywhere. I should have taken an additional picture of those heads to show that they are actually benches in a square, and they were very popular for employees eating lunch. The gherkin building has the poetic name "Tour D2." (not even R2D2!) Actually, in France it is compared to an avocado. It replaced another tower that was demolished in 2011, and the new building was completed in 2014. Today's sunshine was not chilly -- it was 24°. Tomorrow Paris is supposed to be the warmest city in France at 26°.

Today I returned to La Défense almost by accident. I had paid a social visit to my old employer, which recently moved from the Champs Elysées area to Pont de Neuilly just across from La Défense, so I continued west... I still consider a lot of the architecture striking, even without making any attempt to rival Dubai, Shanghai or Hong Kong.

I like visiting La Défense, though I’m not sure why I never made it out there on my last trip to Paris. Thanks for these pictures, Kerouac. I find myself needing something to look forward to in the future, however long that will be.

Belated thanks for your answers to my April '19 questions. And hooray for returning to La Défense and bringing us these stellar pictures! As you know, I am a huge fan of this thread and of the actual La Défense. It's wonderful to see how this area, a marvel of glass and steel, continues to grow and change in such a pleasing, seemingly organic way. It just gets more beautiful! I still consider a lot of the architecture striking, even without making any attempt to rival Dubai, Shanghai or Hong Kong. To me, the most wonderful thing about La Défense is not only the soaring gorgeousness of the various buildings, but how it all fits together and somehow seems welcoming to humans, rather than intimidating. And the fact that these striking buildings are consolidated in a dedicated area, without having to to be jumbled in with existing architecture of a much older period, makes La Défense a wonderland gallery of architecture and an always optimistic view of the future. the steps of the Grande Arche still have lunchtime fans That is a perfectly wonderful photograph. However, it's also rather sad when I consider that my abiding image of Paris is how much the people enjoy populating outdoor spaces in such a convivial way. Admittedly, it is February as you said, but even so, the steps in covid time are a real contrast to normal Paris.

Oooooo ~ a fresh set of pictures from one of the coolest places on earth. You know I looooove La Défense! Kerouac, you really got some outstanding photos.
In the third picture from the bottom, is that a new building right behind Allianz, or an old one being reclad to match the Tour Aurore?
I love the photo right below that of the Tour Aurore. What is that wonderful colored building on far right?

Yes, that's a new building. There are still some going up.
This is actually just a ventilation shaft.

I just enjoyed looking at this entire thread again. Great photos, Kerouac!
Since the covid pandemic happened, I wondered whether they kept building more office buildings, given that so many people worked from home. I thought that office investments must have taken a hit. And Hidalgo as mayor of Paris must have had some influence about cars and bike lanes, even if La Défense is not actually in Paris.
Did those Russian Hermitage buildings ever get built?
