Before I start such a thread, I would like to clarify what I mean. This concerns a few different things: 1. stolen pictures where you saw someone and wanted their portrait and managed to take a picture of the person(s). 2. people who saw you with your camera and it amused them for you to take a picture of them. 3. people who you had no intention of taking a picture of, but they wanted you to take a picture anyway. I will start with an example of each. Example 1 (stolen) a performer in Avignon Example 2 ("take our picture!") people who caught me taking photos on the Quai St. Bernard Example 3 (man with camera! take picture now!) Vietnamese girls Can anybody continue in this vein?

Oh joy! Thanks so much, Kerouac. I have long wanted to start a thread about faces/portraits, but didn't do it because I never figured out a good way to pull it together. This is perfect!

The happy couple just became engaged and were delighted to have a photo of the moment. We were all on a boat on the Seine. The bartender was 'stolen'.

Wonderful, Jazz, particularly that incredibly beautiful woman with the starry background and the world on a string.

I've posted this before, I'm sure, but it's one of my favorite pictures. This was taken with zoom, so "stolen". The people are listening to a patent medicine salesman ~~

Thanks. I like it too. They were watching the Good Friday procession in Quito, Ecuador. I had been taking pics of the participants in the procession and suddenly looked behind me -- and there were these guys.

Wow ~~ you have some treasures there in your travel pictures, Askar.
There's so much range of expression in all the pictures. The last two are amazing in their timelessness. Love the bunch of kids and also the wealth of detail behind them.

Fascinating thread. Askar, your portraits are great...the final shot of the old man fascinates me. What a face, and what history created his face...remarkable.
