Yes indeed Questa! I saw that AB de Villiers has landed a nice little TV advert related to weather. For the last few years it has been Chuck Norris in the role, but now I see it's our cricketer!

What on earth has Chuck Norris got to do with the weather?! Cricketers observe every nuance of the weather. Fast bowlers relish the hot dry wicket that plays fast. Notice is taken if the outfield is fast or dampness slows the ball down on a long hit. Humidity will bring out the bowlers who use the muggy air to help the balls twist and turn and keep low and unpredictable for the batsmen, while the direction of the wind and who bowls with it or against may decide a match. ...and rain at the right time may win or lose a series. Nothing is more dismal then players sitting in the pavilion, playing cards while the rain is pouring down and the faithful fans try to find shelter. Of course the weather report should be done by a cricketer...and AB is as articulate as most.

Ah Ha! so you would not have seen the ad in Australia....it could be just a South African thing as it advertises our DSTV - which in America is called Cable TV but don't know the name in UK or OZ. Here it is: OR, memegenerator.net/instance/46682311

Well, the weather looks perfect for the 3rd Test at Adelaide which is more than I can say about the team selections. Rod Marsh, the nice guy who discovered and trained many greats in the Cricket Academy fell on his sword as a selector after the awful results lately.
The selectors have sent 6 players from last test into the wilderness and the new team has 4 players getting their caps (ie playing their first International match for Oz.) All 6 new players are young...as Josh Hazelwood said, at 25 years old and only a few matches played, he is now a senior player
The match will be a evening one, using the lurid pink ball...the drama at the moment is the enquiry into whether the SA skipper was tampering with the ball by polishing it with saliva (legal) while sucking on a sticky sweet (illegal)
Wars have been fought for less. Oz crowd will be in high spirits now the pantomime has a villain to hiss...Kevin Pietersen used to fill the role nicely. It will be hell to pay if Faf has the charge against him dismissed.

Oooh Questa, the press and private opinions have been steaming hot here! Of course we want Faf to be innocent of all 'fiddling' with the ball, but I think the Ozzies have made a big mistake in trying to make a hooha of a lollipop after they were given the hiding of their lives. It smacks of very very sour grapes over here. As you know I don't know the rules like you do and if someone is not allowed to polish the ball with saliva that is gum or sweet infused should stand but they all chew their heads off to keep moisture flowing, so I wouldn't mind betting this has happened before. Such a pity about that reporter too. Mark Boucher said he should have been given ' a klap' which in Afrikaans means a slap. Can you imagine that hoo ha!

Tod 2, and Mick.I just Googled "Ball Tampering" and read the wikipedia entry...bloody hilarious! I recommend it to anyone to read, even non-cricket people. It explains why they do it and how, then gives a rundown on occasions such as we find ourselves in today...even up to this current folly. So far neither country has called for the other to secede from the British Empire as Oz did in the "bodyline series" against England, but as the media is fueling the fires I imagine the "dead rubber" will attract more spectators than it would have otherwise.
It is not the first time Faf has been copped for this, and one of the SA security men "roughed up" an oh so innocent TV reporter at the airport.
Officially the match starts tomorrow, but in my touristy part of town kids and adults are sight-seeing, strolling around in green and gold (or should that be gold and green) cricket clothes. A few jibes are thrown but so far they are friendly ones
Saw a youth in SA outfit waiting at traffic light to cross. Car pulls up and Oz dressed guy in passenger seat leans out the window and offers SA guy a lollipop. Nothing said, car moves off...I walk home giggling...that is SO cricket!

Who are you 'good griefing', Mick The chap in the orange play-suit or two mature ladies having a laugh at the folly of the young? Meanwhile, back at the cricket...Oz looked pretty good at first but has faded now thanks in part to SA clever declaration which gave the fresh bowlers several overs with night dew and under lights to assist them. I won't go into scores and such but there was irony in the fact that after all the name-calling over the tampering with the ball, Faf Du Plessis made over a century to silence the critics.

Unfortunately I have not been watching today so am happy to hear your report Questa. I personally think Faf is too much a man to stoop to ball tampering - and why would he, SA were in the driving seat. A big mistake to forget your lolly is in the mouth and one he wont make again in a hurry! No matter now, he is one hell of a player we all agree.

And all Australia breathes a sigh of relief ! Still need to learn and practise.
Interesting bit of research has emerged...No-one has ever tested, let alone proved that all the so called tampering has ever had any effect on the bowling anyway. Bunch of Uni cricketers decided to do a quick try out. They found that the usual suspects of hair product, sunscreen, lip balm and sweet saliva made no difference at all to the ball action. Maybe it is all in the mind, like wearing your lucky underpants or kissing your bat.

Har har Questa! And hearty congratulations to Australia on winning the final game. I also breathed a sigh of relief believe it or not. I hate it when things are too one-sided. Makes for no competition and excitement, nail biting, glued to the box TV. Things must keep you on the edge of your seat otherwise boredom sets in and a lot of despondency.
I was looking at the magnificent clear blue sky over the cricket grounds. It's 28C here and lunch was a BBQ under the patio with brilliant sunlight....we expect a few cracks of thunder later but now it's the turn of F1 - I hope my hero Rosberg takes it.

Tod2...are you a F1 fan as well !!!? Me too...we will have to chat that elsewhere. Adelaide hosted 11 races as the last and often deciding race of the season, as you may remember. We called the month No-vrooom-ber and the city came alive. The teams stayed on here and it was party time. We felt we owned Ayrton Senna and when he died the people wept and spontaneously built a memorial to him on pit straight. My son at 18 had 2 years fire training as a volunteer so was appointed as a fire marshall for the practice days and events. I was amazed at the intricacies of the clothes and equipment the marshals had, even the shoulder strap on the extinguisher was padded with thick sheepskin woolly side against the shoulder. In their training they were timed running their fastest across the track...OK you did that in 8 seconds...the F1 would have reached you in 5 seconds...DON'T cross the track. Then the State Premier tried some fancy political games and Melbourne stepped in and 'stole' the event. It now was first race of the season and everyone serious. Crowds stayed away. It wasn't a lovely street circuit, there were no heroes and now Asia has the event. The Govt of the State Premier in question was thrown out at the next election on the strength of 'they lost us the GP' and is still in the wilderness. I think it is a strange coincidence that your hero is the son of the driver who won the first Adelaide GP.

Aah you are referring to Kiki Rosberg! To be honest I have been coaxed into F1 by my husband who is the real fan. Unless I wanted to become a 'golf widow of F1' I was bound to keep one eye on the telly, and one on the Sunday roast. It is only when the race is in a part of the world that dictates we have to view it in the early morning or evening but most times we watch live at 2pm our time. Over the years I automatically got to know who's who in the zoo, and it is strange sometimes to see retired drivers in other roles like commentating. I thought Martin Brundle was excellent. Thanks for the lowdown on F1 in Adelaide....No vroom ber

I continue to admire very small children who have figured it all out.
"I want that."
"We can't get it. I don't have any money."
"You can get money out of the machine."
