Those are fantastic, but some of those people scare me anyway.

Those ads are great.
I regularly read the ones in the New York Review of Books and always wonder why those "perfect" people resort to putting ads in a magazine.

Those ads cracked me up.
I am always fascinated by the personals in printed media. I think most of those "perfect" people are deeply narcissistic and clueless as to how that might be a deterrent to meaningful relationships.

The best marriage adverts (I know there's a real technical term for this but I can't remember it : are to be found in the Indian media. Hindustan Times, Times of India etc. The future husbands, all grown men, are always referred to as boys, caste is always given, girls are always fair and sharp- featured...

Is it "match-making", HW? Wow -- I looked up the Times of India. They have a very sophisticated online sign-up page, and thoughtfully provide sample ads for parents looking to contract marriage for their boys and girls.

It would be awful if the 'boys and girls' arranged their own encounters. We all know that.

If ever there was a country that needed a revolution, that'd be India...

What do the numbers mean? Surely they're not age/weight are they?
What I find really shocking is how many of the women, uh, girls are highly educated and working in their professions.

Yes, they're hight and weight. Note even the subcastes are mentioned, just in case anybody is unsure about who they're going to marry. And age of course. All these well- educated people also still believe in astrology. I wonder what 'BHP' means...? It seems to be asked for in nearly every ad. One thing you need to remember, dowries are still very much expected from the potential husband's family, so more can be asked for if the family has already invested heavily in his education.
