Anybody got any hobbies or special interests? I am so obsessed with gardening that it's a passion more than a hobby. I grow fruit, vegetables and flowers.
I am interested in astronomy, my Dad used to design telescopes and was the secretary of the local amateur astronomical society when I was growing up...so it's always been part of my life. We've just bought a nice new telescope but my beloved won't let me anywhere near it...
Art, I like to paint and draw...no great shakes but the house is full of my daubings. Enjoy visiting galleries and museums...Like to crochet mostly granny-squares...a newly acquired skill... ;D
I read a lot, mostly Fantasy fiction but I read just about anything...usually have a few books on the go.
Like to cook too....and since last summer's excursion...I like to travel and would like to do a lot more. Love my lovely pooter...and belong to a couple of MBs....
What do you do?

No wonder you are such an interesting person -- you are alert to so many things. *admire*
Lemme see ....... nowadays my gardening is more pottering than the intense gardening I used to do.
I love to read, & can't imagine a life without it.
I like to decorate, and with this recent move I'll have some scope for that.
When I was young, I was the kind of cook who would fearlessly try all kinds of things from scratch. I still like to cook, but it's more casual inspiration now.
It's been a while since I was really eager to take a trip and I fervently hope my zest for that returns.
I love learning how to do stuff on the computer.

My favorite hobby is to plan vacations, and not just for us but for friends. Once I decide on a country or when someone brings me their plan and dates, I enjoy finding interesting villages or towns and then building from there with accommodations and activities and restaurants.
I enjoy researching topics from discussions that I was not knowledgeable in.
And Sports pools, not betting. People arrange a pool for playoffs, for example hockey, and you pick your players and watch the statistics to see how you are doing. Frequently it is for charity. My husband and I do them together and last year I did so well (and he did so poorly, ha ha) that I convinced him he should buy me a purse I had been wanting. It was a lot of fun. ;D

i like planning vacations too, sometimes ones i know i won't take, just to plan them in theory. though sometimes that gets frustrating because then i really want to go.

Reading, some writing, poetry in particular, photography, cooking,a little bit of music, tinkering on the piano, some minor attempts at writing some music. Cycling, to be sure, beachcombing, bodysurfing. I also enjoy growing different fruits and herbs, although gardening is mixed in with work so,not really a hobby per say. I really love design work whether it be house, interiors or exterior, garden rooms I guess I would call them, and living walls of late. Oh,and bird watching!!!

hm not obsessed with roadmaps, but i really wish i'd find some of this area. google maps is the most precise map of the area i can find - and there are loads of streets missing on it, and most villages. trying to draw up some maps myself but difficult as people tend to not know themselves where places are, map-wise, they just know how to get there...

Love road maps! I bought my husband a navigator for Christmas a few years ago and I really dislike it! I fight with her as if she can hear me because I have my road map on my lap and disagree with her route instructions often. I tried at first to trust it, thought it would give me more time to read a book but I now usually turn her off and throw her to the backseat.
The maps that have the road exit number, fuel stations, restaurants etc. are my favorite.
I keep them all too. Happy Trails, Mich

Mich, I think you'd really enjoy this thread, which has the added attraction of showcasing the incredible talent of an AnyPort member. Cheery, you'd like it, too. Click on the big pic in #29 to be taken to a site where you can get to some celestial goodies.

Given the ways I make what some might call a living, it is hard to define what is work and what is a hobby. Basically I write and draw/paint. Sometimes it is paid, sometimes it isn't.
Definite hobbies include cooking (especially for friends), cycling, agree about the trip planning and travel research for others - though I would like to draw upon that for paid work at some point, and of course, wasting time on the web while working.
I think pretty much all of us can say travel, to the extent that we have the funds, time and health to do so. Travel can be very local as well as within one's region, nation, continent or world.

So glad you brought that up, LaGatta. It made me notice that none of us has mentioned what constitutes a newish habit/hobby for many anyporters. That is, the carrying of our cameras around so that we can make picture reports here of our travels to the supermarket or to a foreign country. And those who don't take photos are very good about reporting on their daily doings, travels, meals, etc. Such a good point about what constitutes travel. Kerouac said something similar ~ this board gives a different meaning for being "well-travelled." It is not at all a question of going around the world and seeing things. If you can just go to the other side of town and make a report about what you saw (with photos even better!), that can be real travel and a source of wonderment to everybody.

WhatEver floats my boat. I like sports but i'm not playing any right now. I'm thinking of getting a kayak. That should be nice....i love to travel when i can. I heart a nice garden but don't like working in one. I'd rather sip on something and watch someone else do a nice job. Encouragement is good.....

OK - I must have misread it somewhere. Germany is wonderful - I hope to spend more time in Bavaria next year.
Hobbies of mine in no particular order: Well the photography together with my husband. Collecting antique coffee cups. Playing poker -Texas Hold'em. Bird watching. Used to collect coins and have a fair amount. Also have collection of famous autographs. And if I had more money than I knew what to do with, I would travel most of the year.

foreverman, crown green bowls or normal flat lawn? Normal flat green bowls, we are lucky in Esperance, we have two greens of very good synthetic carpet so we can play come rain or sunshine. They run at a constant 16 secs........... I think the UK is the only place that has Crown green bowls, I have never played it.....

Just saw this! My best mate in Derby was Boyd Kenna! Is he still in Esperance? Or his sister Fiona? Both in their late forties now.

For many years there was a flat one over the back fence of where I lived. It belonged to a working mens club, but the club folded and the lawn went to weeds. Shame as I used to jump over many a time and have a game with them. Crown green I only tried once and never took to it.
