Thanks Questa...two of my sisters now have the girls in post 48 I'm playing with making a pattern for a boy doll...he may be a punk or a Morris man...or maybe a Viking...not decided yet. I will do an Indian lady at some point but I'd need to find some fabric for the doll itself. Calico takes dye quite well but I'm going to a market tomorrow and hope there will be lots of lovely suitable fabric for me to buy r

It is a goat with opposable thumbs and a bad attitude.

Oh! Whatagain was guessing what the Viking was? I thought he was suggesting that Cheery make a Roman emperor doll, which is a cool idea.

Meet Vladimir. He's not a Viking or a Roman Emperor I'm afraid. Seriously...it's getting to be an obsession....

Cheery ~ he's brilliant. YOU are brilliant! Is that a sewing machine he's sitting on? (for an idea of size). You make such personality-filled, artistic dolls.

Thanks Bixa dear, they're sitting on my Kitchen Aid mixer which doesn't fit in any of my cupboards!

Aaah ~ okay. That gives me a perfect idea of their size, as I am familiar with that type mixer.
They really are phenomenal!

They all have such lovely wistful eyes and expressions. None of the inane smiles or horrid clown-type faces. They look as if they just remembered something from long ago or were daydreaming. I can imagine a Columbine, Pierrot and Harlequin trio.

The gallery sold all but one of my dolls during the exhibition. Last Monday was the day for entrants to collect their unsold work so I went along to pick up Vladimir....the gallery owner said to 'leave him with them...and can I take in some friends for him?' ulp So I have work IN A GALLERY (like a proper artist!) This is my latest (unfinished...I'm going to make some red poppies for his hat and for him to hold) Walter...a wounded WW1 soldior. Thank you Questa for the idea c2.staticflickr.com/2/1896/43398668364_55e94be4e9_z.jpgc2.staticflickr.com/2/1845/44068296092_e8f4d3be57_z.jpgit's great therapy...

You ARE a proper artist!!
He is absolutely wonderful. I am astounded at how each doll is so different from the others, but they are all so full of personality.
Cheery, have you put your artistry to work to design tags for your creations? And a name -- what will you call your collection of cuties?

Cheery, in this year of commemoration of the Great War, you could make a fortune with more dolls like that. Actually, I doubt that you want to make a "fortune," but you could certainly make a lot of people happy with more dolls like that.
I would certainly be tempted to buy one.

That really is an excellent idea. She's going to sew her poor little fingers right off between now & November, though!

I am glad that Walter returned from the Front with both legs intact. He came close to losing one, didn't he?

Walter is smiling because he is glad to be alive, and has seen comrades-in-arms in far worse shape. I found Arnold with a wistful cheery face just by a quick google, he was also wounded but recovered: You get a very good view of his headwear. He had a long run! inspirationalwomenofww1.blogspot.com/2014/01/fascinating-fact-of-great-war-arnold.html Oddly, I found the young man at a site about inspirational women of the war. Perhaps you can make him a nurse or other female participant. Odd that turned up, as I was looking for a young man. Are you going to make him some rats, or would that be too repulsive?

Oh no, don't remove a leg. He's smiling because his wounds are relatively minor (though we don't know if he'll see out of the damaged eye) compared to many of his mates'. Yes, the hat is much better!
