No, it's clay. A friend brought it to me from one of the national folk craft fairs, so I don't know where it's from in Mexico.
The lady with the fish is from Capula, Michoacán and I think the fabric piece is from India.

Look what I got this afternoon! I'm putting it here as I don't know where else it fits. As far as that goes, I don't know where the heck I am going to put it in my house. It's quite large and heavy because it's made out of clay, but oh so adorable. There is an antiques store quite close to where I live & I pass it every day when I walk the dogs. The same two guys are always there & some of the pieces seem permanent and not very desirable. Also, the pieces I've checked out in the past always seem really overpriced. I'd sort of decided it was some sort of money-laundering operation, although admittedly things do seem to get sold eventually. Anyway, coming back home with the dogs this evening, I stopped in my tracks when I saw this marvel and instantly wanted it. The price quoted was far, far less than what I anticipated, plus they came down a little bit and one of the guys carried it to my house.
