At least we still have the albums. If we still have the equipment to play them…

I am very sad to have learned about Mr. Crosby's death. 81 years is a pretty good run for someone with so many health issues many from his self-destructive lifestyle.
So much of his music I grew up with I can still relate to and love to hear. When Deja Vu was released I nearly wore down the old style record player in our house and it kind of drove my mother a tad crazy. ("If I hear that song about the bird one more time I'm going to scream and I'm "Helplessly Hoping" it will stop!!")
Thank you Kimby for that link. (The NY Times had a pretty good obituary as well with many tidbits that I was unaware of. (The paywall won't allow me to post the link I'm sorry.)
The local university radio station played a good selection of his music today with a lot of "bootleg" songs I had never heard.

Burt Bacharach has died, age 94. But he must have retired quite a while back because I hadn't heard of him in years.

Me either Kerouac. Upon reading that he had died did conjure up a myriad of flashbacks to the 1960's and 70's when his compositions were prolific. (Many of them on the "corny", "nutrasweet" side that were fodder for many an earworm.)

It was the music that our parents liked in opposition to that awful rock'n'roll crap.
That made me look up Herb Alpert (and the Tijuana Brass), who is still alive for the time being.

I really liked Dionne Warwick and she sang so many of Bacharach's songs.

Gary Robert Rossington (December 4, 1951 – March 5, 2023) was an American musician and songwriter. He is best known as a founding member of Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd, in which he played lead and rhythm guitar.

A national treasure. I saw him perform with Miles Davis in 1985 at the Berkely Jazz Festival. What a show!!! RIP Wayne

Goodbye Topol. Lead in one of my favourite films Fiddler on the Roof. Saw him in a revival of Fiddler in London. Went with a group of Jehova’s Witnesses!

I did not remember the music from that movie, just that the movie scarred me for life.

I was always amazed that Harry Belafonte was still alive since it seemed to me that he was even older than 96.

Does this sound familiar?
Belafonte's far better version ~

Roseanne Cash did a version of “Man Smart, Woman Smarter” that came out around 1980. I recognized the song but no one believed me when I said Harry Belafonte had done it. But my parents had the LP and I knew I was right!

Thanks Bixa. I like(d) Nana Mouskouei but i never heard that song... knowing me, upon hearing it, i would have immediately changed station anyway. This kind of music irritates me.

Even though I was never a big fan, he wrote some wonderful lyrics -- listening to "If You Could Read My Mind" right now.
