Very sad and unexpected news.
This evening on NPR, Terri Gross, the host of Fresh Air is doing an hour long tribute to Mr. Reed, with 'vintage' interviews etc. I had anticipated she would, and she never disappoints.

The artist who did those drawings is very talented. That's how I would imagine these stars to look in their old age too.

Frankly I think that there would be a lot less hair on the heads of several of the men.

That's for sure, but a lot of the old guys who survived either have very good genes or very good hairpieces.
Janis Joplin's style sure seems stuck in the year she died.

Aging can be cruel. Looking at Elvis as he would be now is pretty sad. He was such a gorgeous man.

Yes, but even by the time he died in early middle age, he had lost his stunning good looks.

I like to remember him as he was before he got into the drugs and that shyte.
In his 20's and and 30's he was indeed stunning.

Unless I missed it in here, we failed to note the death of Van Cliburn. classical pianist who was my first introduction to classical music at a fairly young age. I fondly recall checking out vinyl LP's of his music from the library back in the 60's.

No -- I didn't know that! You'd think his death would have gotten a good bit of press.

I'm really sad to hear of Phil Everly's death. Another great talent gone Yet another beautiful song from the Everly brothers:

One of the good guys, and very influential on my growing-up folk singing years. RIP Pete Seeger.

Bixa - I listened to Pete and his geetaar. All I can say is that it took me back to 1967 when my boyfriend ( now husband) used to go along to a club on Sunday nights to listen to "folk music" - Things like 'We shall Overcome' and all the folksie songs especially by Bob Dylan.

I thought that this would have been posted long before now because I heard it when I got up this morning (midnight EST) and it was one of the top stories on the French news. (I spent most of the day at a funeral, so I was not online to do the honours.)
Actually, his best known song in France is "If I Had a Hammer" because a top French pop star sang the French version of it.

I regret his death although I am far from certain that he would still be a star today if alive. I am thinking (but perhaps I am wrong) that he was the last superstar to come out of Seattle.
