"Queen Of Earth" directed by Alex Ross Perry. Starring Elisabeth Moss (of Mad Men ) fame.
A superb actress to be sure. Gratefully recognized, and not "pegged",pun intended, she surpasses herself in this film which has a very limited release here and I was ever so grateful to view.
If it comes upon your radar, please check it out.

Glad to be reminded of that movie. I saw a review a while back & mentally pegged (ahem) it, then forgot.

DO check it out Bixa. I'm telling you, it's all I can do to not post spoilers but, Ms. Moss is one incredibly talented actress, as I'm sure you well already know. I believe her collaboration with this particular director will take on a relationship not too unlike Dianne Keaton and Woody Allen. ( I would hate to say "muse" out of respect for Elisabeth Moss) but, something akin to. Her range is mind blowing and Perry's guidance, whatever, is so in evidence.

I confess that I avoided this movie because I hated the director's previous film so much.

Three different French films have had variable fates due to the recent events in Paris.
Made in France was supposed to be released tomorrow and has been shelved indefinitely. It is about a radical jihadist cell being infiltrated by a journalist during the preparation of a huge terrorist attack on Paris. Not hard to understand why this one had to be postponed. The poster apparently showed an Eiffel Tower in the shape of a kalachnikov.
Next week Les Cowboys is supposed to come out and is still on the schedule so far. It is about a father going to Yemen to track down his daughter who has followed her jihadist boyfriend, after stopping off in Belgium. It starts in the 1990's and spans 6 years, during which the WTC, Madrid and London attacks take place. Frankly, I will not be surprised if they decide to postpone this one, too.
Finally, on December 2, Taj Mahal is supposed to come out. It is about the terrorist attack in India in 2008 that most closely resembles what just happened in Paris. 166 people died in the attack of a train station, a Jewish centre and a luxury hotel. The movie follows the true story of an 18 year old French girl who was one of the hostages.
It just goes to show what a crapshoot moviemaking is when the wrong thing happens at the wrong time.

Went and saw Justin Kurzel's newest remake of Macbeth. I can't say I really enjoyed it. Very dark and violent and somehow I felt that the Shakespeare in it got very lost. Marion Cotillard was sensational (as usual).
I think I will stick to stage productions of this play from now on.
Roman Polanski's movie version I remember as being a disappointment as well.

Tomorrow is the big day! A long time ago, in a mall theater far, far away, I stood in an endless line to see Star Wars when it opened in the New Orleans area. I did it because my son was eaten up alive with desire to see the movie, but l would up being bitten by the Star Wars bug as well.
Just looked at the local movie listings -- the Force will awaken many times on many big screens, in digital and in 3D, dubbed into Spanish and subtitled. The last showings each day start at 11 pm!
I really, really want to see it, but am not insane enough to try to go this weekend.

It didn't quite break annual opening day records here, I think, but it came close. Spectre beat it because that movie came out on a holiday.

I heard on the news that some people flew from the States to see it in Paris because it opened 2 days later in New York. They must be insane. It's a movie, folks.

If you were forced to visit Paris, I guess that would make the trip worthwhile. The special effects and the action sequences in the original movie were dazzling at the time. I wonder if they'd still affect us that way, after the innovations of the past 38 years. I remember reading back in the '70s a quote by George Lucas where he said he wanted to recreate the childhood thrills delivered by westerns, space movies, etc. In attempting to find that quote, I came across this fascinating article about the many influences on Star Wars: Star Wars Is a Postmodern Masterpiece. If you don't feel like reading all of that, just enjoy looking at the original concept art.

The special effects are less dazzling because we are used to them. But there is a great new cantina.
And yes, some people paid $5000 to see the movie two days earlier than in the United States.

Yes. Don't you ever look at "What is the last movie you saw?"

Of COURSE I do! I look at every single thing that is posted on anyport every single day and take exhaustive notes on all of them. I also always read all the way up the page so that I won't miss any previous comments, links, etc. That is why I never, ever, ever miss anything nor offend anyone by not commenting on posts or threads.
Don't you do exactly the same?

No. I only saw the first Star Wars movie and remember nothing about it. I do remember Space Balls.

Similar, though not the same, as the Florence Foster Jenkins film that's coming out with Meryl Streep.
Probably won't see either of them. I have almost perfect pitch and the singing would drive me crazy. I'd grind my teeth down to nubs.

Yes, this was based on the F.F. Jenkins story, but fictionalised. You don't have to have perfect pitch to grind your teeth during the singing scenes, but luckily they do not make up the bulk of the movie. Nobody could survive that.
You can always roll up a washcloth and stick it in your mouth.

Apparently there is already a huge buzz for the new Beauty and the Beast coming out in March 2017.
Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Ewan McGregor, Emma Thomson, Ian McKellen, Luke Evans, Kevin Kline, etc.

Even though I adore the Jean Cocteau Beauty and the Beast, I won't be able to resist seeing this new one.
Today I watched trailers for Sing and for Tulip Fever & want to see both of them. Even if Alicia Vikander weren't a wonderful actress, she'd still look so great for this part.

I think Benedict Cumberbatch and Tilda Swinton are having a contest to see who can be weirder.

I'm looking forward to seeing Dunkirk next July. It was filmed on location in the usual weather conditions, not the sunny calm that I saw in Dunkerque last month...

I love Chrisopher Nolan's work. I'm wondering how the American market will react to a war film that has absolutely nothing to do with US troops saving the day.

Smart of Daniel Radcliffe to show what all he's capable of as an actor. The movie looks good, although no way would I watch anything that harrowing.
I will absolutely die if I can't see Dr. Strange on the big screen!

Fatima is finally being released in the United States. It won Best Picture in France last year and is well worth seeing.
