click! --> You've all seen the news fader and the new button on the main page of the forum, and (<-- edited 10/2517) some of you are now "fans" of Any Port in a Storm Facebook Page. The Page can be used to promote and grow this forum so that it will stay vibrant and interesting. It's an easy, discreet way to give the forum some exposure without having to push it on anyone. If possible, get people to "Like" the Page on the Page itself, rather than from their own pages. This gives it more fans, which makes it more attractive. You can also make the various links on the Page more attractive by Liking them. With just one click you'll compliment the person who made the thread, enhance its standing, and help direct your facebook friends to this forum. A useful feature is the "Share" option under each post. You can use that to post a comment and the link directly to your own facebook page. When people click the link on your page, it will take them directly to the thread here in the forum. That pretty much covers what I know about how it works. If anyone has any tips to share, please bring them on!

To answer some possible questions about how and when threads are featured on the Facebook Page:
Right now, we're trying to space links out and not post one every day.
Links are selected for variety, so that visitors to the Page understand that the forum covers many topics.
Thumbnails are selected on the basis of what shows up best on the Page, so won't necessarily be the best photo from a thread.

The Anyport facebook page is now set up so that comments and pictures can be posted. Unfortunately, facebook is not set up so that members here can post their photos directly into existing albums on the anyport fb page. So, you either have to post to the Wall, or create a new album. If you're a facebook user, you can really help to promote this forum by "liking" posts on the fb page or, better yet, by sharing links so that the maximum number of people possible will see them.

What is Facebook?

There's another thread where people can debate the merits or otherwise of Facebook.
For the purposes of this thread, it's a "social network site" used by over 200 million people around the world. If you are someone who uses Facebook, it can be an immensely useful tool to help spread the word about this forum.

We couldn't get it to work on firefox, only on ie. That's why the button on the main page takes you to the fb page itself. I take it from your post, you think it's a good idea? We can give it another shot. There is a Share button. It's on the bottom right side of every post, between the Reply and the Print buttons.

I do find myself looking for it. The Image sub-forum is a great example...sometimes, I'd rather hit a "like" button than actually replying to every single post. I guess I'm just lazy. ;D I've noticed the share button, but haven't utilized it yet.

How is the button supposed to work? I Liked a thread to see what would happen. It showed up on my fb page like this: Bixa Orellana likes a link. Any Port in a Storm - Home anyportinastorm.proboards.com ' ,hideGigyaLink : 'true' ,onLoad : pollContent0 ,onClose : closeIt0 ,onError : anerror0 } function pollContent0(eventObj)If clicked on my page, it just takes you to the home page here.

Just want to remind everyone of how much the use of anyport's Facebook Page benefits this forum. Every time you Like something on that Page, it ripples out into cyberspace and can bring viewers to Any Port in a Storm. That attention can mean new members, which is what forums need to grow and to stay fresh. Sharing is super easy from the Page, brings even more attention to the forum, plus introduces your facebook friends to interesting material. Even non-Facebook users will enjoy visiting the Page and perusing the list of our Favorites there. It's a very varied group of Pages addressing travel, ecological concerns, news, humor, etc. Those Pages link you to a world of websites and information. Please visit the Any Port in a Storm Facebook Page. If you're a Facebook user, please think about Liking the Page. Then, remember to visit often and keep things lively by Liking and commenting on links. Enormous thanks to those of you who already help out by doing this. <-- click!

Facebook is something that I've never considered....I have always regarded it as the domain of the younger generation...and tbh I don't really know how these things work. Scared of making mistakes, like posting on there when drunk...then it's 'out there' forever....

I don't have a Facebook page either, and only twitter when I'm among my friends. Can't keep to 140 characters!

Nope...no twitter either. Some people love it, and if I had an all-singing-all-dancing smartphone I think that I'd be joining in all the fun...but I have an ancient pay-as-you-go and rarely use the thing...

That's all I have too, CPB. I deliberately put twitter with a small t, so you would think of birds rather than texting.

Those "likes" lead to web traffic for AnyPort and higher visibility in google searches so I hope everybody clicks "like" for every APIS post, whether you read the article or not. It's just a click of a button and completely painless.

That's it! Thanks so much, FMT. Also, the buttons on the upper left of every page of the anyport forum are extremely handy & easy to use. Now it's time to send a big, big thanks to Mich, who faithfully Likes anyport's fb posts. Do you all know that the anyport fb page just got fourteen (14!) new fans? Nice! Of course, the most important goal is to get the forum to grow, but the fb page is an important tool in achieving that.

Same thanks to the same people and the same wistful request that others please start Liking what's posted on the anyport facebook page.
Through the efforts of our "serial Likers", plus the platform provided by everyone subscribed, plus the links posted on other Pages, our facebook Page got 20 new members between Feb. 3 and March 3.
A few minutes ago we got our 98th fan/follower/Liker (what's the right word?)!
If you are a facebook user, please use it to help this forum grow!

Help to make anyport even livelier by spreading the word on facebook. If you Like anyport's fb page, all of its links to threads here can be dispersed even more.

If you Like anyport's fb page, all of its links to threads here can be dispersed even more. What's the percentage of dislikers? I see alot of traffic through here but, many don't post or comment. Are we becoming Any Post in a Storm?
